What 42" TV is good at the moment for ~£800, I might be able to stretch to more if its worth it.

edit: Change of budget: ~£600

You can pick up the Panasonic TXP50G10 50" for approx £900 or the newly released Panasonic TXP42G20 42" for approx £950+ these are supposed to be the best Plasma TV's around judging by most websites, especially avforums.

I've had a Samsung LE46M87 46" LCD for well over 2 years now, and while I have been very impressed with the set over that time, I have the urge to splash on something bigger/better which the above are supposed to be.

Obviously there's far cheaper TV's out there, but you get what you pay for, I'd definitely go with bigger if possible, I upgraded from a 32" Phillips CRT and I thought going to 46" would be big enough, but it's not long before you get used to and want bigger still!

One of things that most people seem to forget when buying a new LCD/LED/Plasma is that these are far thinner than CRTs so are closer to wall/further away.......my Phillips was about 3-4 foot deep so viewing distance was less, if you see what I mean.

You can't really go wrong browsing the AV forums, maybe something there will take your fancy. Anyways sorry to bore you with all that and good luck :D

Hmm thanks for the suggestions. I'm mainly looking to use it for xbox / movies via my computer if that makes a difference. I'm also going to have it in my room which is fairly small so I think anything over 42" would be a bit too big.

Always get as big as you can reasonably afford - you'd soon be looking at the 42" and wishing it had those extra 8" ;)

Deffo this.

I paid £609 all in, for a cracking Samsung 50" 1080P last november.

1080P pictures still wow me even 4 months on.

Another happy g10 owner here, although you'll be luky to find a 42 now, id get the g15 instead, slightly higher spec but going fro around the same money, as for the g20, ive been playing with the picture settings on our one in the shop, and i just cant get it to look anywhere near as good as my g10 does, it just seems dull and flat looking, tbh im quite dissapointed with it so far,

I've been looking at the TXP42G20 on the high street and I am considering this one over the the G10, because, it has freesat and freeview hd built in, from point go (i.e futureproofing all in one box).

Has anyone got a TXP42G20 yet?

I was just about to post a thread on this very topic. I have been looking at this tv and it looks the business. Freeview Hd built in is a big bonus.

As for looking at Tv's in shops, I find it pretty hopeless as they are usually all playing different channels or some playing hd, some playing a powerpointslide show and it just seems impossible to get a good feel for a good tv in a store.

Am looking seriously at the TXP42G20. A lot of money though, average prices around £1K.
