What 4870 card?

Hi all

Which one is the better option?

Sapphire ATI Radeon HD 4870 "Toxic" 1024MB

XFX Radeon HD 4870 xXx 1024MB

XFX ATI Radeon HD 4870 1024MB

HIS HD 4870 IceQ 4+ Turbo 1GB GDDR5

the toxic is the fastest, the HIS is the quietest..

If both are the same price, go for the HIS - it'll clock to the same speeds as the toxic, and there'll be no need for a 3rd party cooler

are you going to be modding the card in any way that will obviously void the warranty?

if yes, get the cheapest

if no

how long are you keeping the card for?
will you sell it on in the future?
are you willing to try overclocking the card yourself?
have you had any experience with the manufacturer's RMA service?

personally i would get the cheapest

I'd pay the extra 60p and get the Sapphire 1gb (non - toxic) version - the cooler is ,assuming per photo, a good quiet one .

I got the Saphire one that was on special last week and am thoroughly pleased with it.
Its a very sexy black colour too

Fan is indeed quiet,but if you turn off auto fan control and stick it at 100% (if you wanted to) it sounds like a jet engine.

The rest of the time it is silent however, so I don't have a bad word to say about it

coolers are very quiet have mine on 50 and cannot here them temps dont go over 65 under load , and are the same price and have better coolers than the xfx that are on offer

Those HIS coolers are supposed to be pretty loud on the 4870's according to the reviews.

fair enough.. the HIS cooler on my x1950pro was remarkable for its silence given the x1950's notorious heat

Yeah, it's a shame because they're not really offering anything new at the high end with their IceQ stuff at the moment.

i found the new type sapphire cooler quieter than the toxic at same fan speeds but the toxic cools better

+1 here for the saphire 1gb, thoroughly pleased with mine, the cooler is fairly quiet and does a good job of keeping the temps down in my rather cramped case.
