What 500GB IDE?

Hi,

What would be the best drive to go into my Icy Box Enclosure and also into a media player enclosure?

This one?

Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 500GB ST3500630A ATA-100 16MB Cache - OEM

I would also consider a 400GB one -maybe this?

For those sorts of applications the speed of the drive isn't that important because the USB2 connection will be the limiting factor. The choice then really comes down to brand loyalty/personal experience and warranty. The Seagate's 5 year warranty would probably sway me in that direction.

Why is IDE more than SATA?

You can get two Seagate drives 320gb for 130 pounds?

haven't you got a sata connection on your motherboard or something?

Guys,

Thanks for your input. I already have 2x 300GB DiamondMax 10 installed. The 3rd drive is going to be swapped between the two devices listed above.

In the end i've gone for this one:

Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 400GB ST3400620A ATA-100 16MB Cache - OEM

The reasons - 400GB should be enough for now

plus it was £40 quid cheaper

Good choice, Seagate reliability is backed by their warranty as rpstewart said.
