Im looking at Phanteks Revolt Pro 850W Gold as the price and warranty is appealing. From what I have read it is also a rebrand of seasonic prime.

Is the Revolt Pro 850W any good?

The equivalent seasonic is about £70 more expensive and harder to find stock.

Also open to other brand suggestions.

Thanks

Yes. Yes.

I preordered the Seasonic Focus 1000w but it never came in stock (delayed). I contacted Seasonic direct and they were good enough to be honest and say the shipments will be weeks behind. They also confiormed their OEM partners were also made by them. I then checked for stock of Phanteks and ROG units as like you say are also made by Seasonic.

Luckily the phanteks came into stock the day I was looking so swiftly ordered.

I have used seasonics 12-pin nvidia cable with the phanteks all working.

With all do respect guys has this been backed up by someone like johny guru? my experience of phanteks whilst in china was they were a budget friendly brand... not a pro brand like seasonic. they may very well make them, but with what quality control or parts?

Quality would be identical to the Gold Focus parts I would think. Phanteks literally put on a different fan grill and stickers.

Also remember even the same brands make different quality level parts. Most of them actually. Evga psus were made by superflower but they don't all use Leadex line parts.

Then why would they be so much cheaper? Something doesn't add up lol

How much cheaper do you think they are?

I emailed Seasonic and asked them, tldr reply was they make them as OEM same as ROG and your logic is flawed because ROG are generally more expensive as your paying for the asus tax...

Phanteks 850w: £125
Seasonic 850w: £140
ROG 850w: £160

Lol. ROG is more than Seasonics own.. maybe paying for some RGB or something but quality? no.

Lol my logic is not flawed - you get what you pay for is a well respected piece of logic.

I'm telling you now - when I was in China, the phanteks line and seasonic line were miles apart. This is why I find it nearly impossible to believe they'd be made with the same quality parts OR qc. Which with psu testing, as you'd imagine, is quite extensive.

Yeah rog is like buying diesel or gucci. Good quality but you're gonna pay for that name.

However perhaps somethings different for their parts shipped to UK - in China an 850 gold phanteks was like 800rmb (88 quid) where a seasonic was around 1400rmb (150 quid).

Above the difference is minimal.

I went with an evga (made by superflower) but was platinum for the same as the seasonic. Wish I hadn't though its quite noisy. Came in a lovely box though. Lol. Like the gucci-esque rog one will do I'm sure. Again you gotta pay for that luxury packaging haha. And maybe that's one thing - you're just paying for the OG seasonic brand and packing because you're a UK sucker in their eyes. Who knows.

Just johjy guru check any psu purchase I'd say

Maybe not identical, I couldn't say unless I had them side by side and opened up. I did ask Seasonic, I already had one that was 7 years old and they nicely sent me a 12-pin for my GPU even though it was not from their current line up. He even said the Phanteks was good as the shipment of Seasonic to EU region was delayed.

But look at it like this, I was with Smarty for my mobile phone £20pm no contract, can cancel anytime. Went direct with 3, using an offer got £18pm but generally they were £25pm at the time. The masts I use work exactly the same. Smarty use 3 but can charge less. Just because you see branding/marketing etc doesn't mean your getting anything more than what the parent company or infrastructure make. Look how many broadband providers are cheaper than BT (they travel over same equipment as BT)?

If your telling me Phanteks use B grade parts when the guy on the Seasonic CS desk tells me the OEM rog and phanteks are made by themselves and are same components... thats all I needed to purchase. I can confirm the cables are seasonic, identical.

Like I said manufacturers can make all different levels of parts. I'm not saying they use b grade parts. And have all different kinds of testing, qc, packaging, brand and advertising costs attached.

The phone example is actually quite good - not sure about smarty but when Tesco used o2s masts, they were indeed using exactly the same masts however would be second in line for data/connectivity. However... They had different customer service! See what I mean? There's a lot of different variables within company setups, we couldn't even begin to understand them even if we knew.

Sony/Toshiba/others use LG panels in their tvs. As well as boards. Are they the same quality? No.
Samsung use Sonys OWN camera lenses - are Sony phonebcameras better? No. Wtf?
There's a factory in China that produces FAKE products AND real versions of the SAME product. Are they any different to the real thing? You might not even know!

Another example is like 90% of aios all have asetek pumps. Yet theyre often different in quality. You've got your £50 bargain basement chinese ones and your £150 nxzt ones. Both chinese at the end of day, probs made in the same factory. One brand has 3 star reviews one has 4.5.

Personally though if an actual rep told me they were exactly the same, and *specifically* said they use the exact same parts and had the exact same level of quality (I'm not sure they did that) then I'd buy the cheapest. I don't want to pay for packing or branding. You'd be damn right to buy the cheapest.

Something as simple as cables I would expect all the top (and maybe even cheap manufacturers) get them from the same company.
That's not something I'd be worried about them skimping out on though, more likely the capacitors and stuff.

I see why you have that stance. I do. But when it came to these PSU's if you ask the manufacturer direct and they say yes we make them and they are then rebadged there's not much more to say. If you check out the phanteks site they clearly have plastered on all the marketing 'made by seasonic'. I asked Seasonic about the cables whilst I had dialogue with them 'yes sir those cables are ours'. I compared my phanteks with my old seasonic and the boxes, cables, cable ties, stickers are from the seasonic factory. Phanteks do not need to touch most of this stuff else its more costs to absorb. You take your chances as they say.. from my research I am happy enough, for the record - the site I ordered the Seasonic on originally has take it down (it was stating pre-order due on 28th Feb) so they did me a favour telling me to not wait for that delivery!!! :)

I would not treat display panels the same as you say, especially as they are likely to be over £300 but thats what the reviewers and tubers are for right?

Jesus Well in that case I stand corrected and will consider a phanteks psu (I bought their stuff in the UK and in China, and find it to be good quality, despite the lower prices).

I've been wrong before mind. Teenage me bought a pair of 120 quid diesel jeans and some £50 bench jeans. Diesel jeans survived a bike crash at 40mph slide and bench ones fell apart just by wearing them. Beforehand I'd said I was just paying for the name.
I've been taught so many times you get what you pay for it's impossible to get it out of my head.
I love a good bargain though and these phanteks psus sound exactly that.

Let us know what you get op.

Phanteks pros are based on the seasonic focus gold line and phanteks x are based on the seasonic prime platinum lines.

seasonic wouldn’t have changed their base platform for whatever reasons. Swapping out for cheaper components at relatively smaller volume is far more costly than just using their “volume sourced” standard components. Makes very little sense in bait and switch. Seasonic is OEM for many PSUs. Phanteks offers 12yr warranty on these units, so it would make next to no sense if the PSU is “cheaper units”. Seasonic would be forever replacing them.

Makes sense but why do it in the forst place? theyve already got the best brand name for psus. why sell the same product cheaper, under a different name. can see why phanteks would want this, however how can they profit. maybe theyre happy to take a lower margin that seasonic perhaps?

That's how OEM's work. Phanteks can probably charge less as they have no plant to run, manufacturing to maintain and paperwork to pull it all tested into a package. They simply rebrand it and sell. Yes lower margin with regard to direct RRP but like I mentioned earlier they have less overheads than Seasonic would - wages, engineers, equipment etc.

I was surprised to see Asus ROG units were also OEM seasonic. I looked at getting them but they are even more expensive so - no thanks to that bull.
