So, as a few of you may have seen ive noticed i've been quite active ont he forum as i am about to start my new build and had finally, after months of debating, decided on my spec last night but didnt have my debit card at the time because my mum was using it. So i decided i would order everything today during college. This 'was' my spec list...

Biostar Tpower P45
sapphire HD 4870
q6600
2x 2gb xms2 RAM

So i spent the whole of last night refreshing the 4870 page to check the stock so that if it ever got below "10+ in stock" i could get another card from somewhere. Then when i got up today i checked the stock again, it was still "10+ in stock" (and unfortunately i didn't have time to buy the stuff before college). I had decided that when i finish my first lesson i would order all my kit. I log onto the nearest computer and.... "Out of stock. No ETA".
Imagine the frustration of wanting to buy a new pc for the past year, then finally deciding i would go over my budget on a spec to then see that the most expensive component on the list that happens to have £60 off it is old out!!
So to console my anger and frustration i decided to buy a BFG GTX 280 OC :D for the lovely price of £249 that i found ont he internets.
And before anyone says it...yes i know that OcUK did have a offer on 280's @ £218 last week! which i didnt see!!:mad:

So now i am going over my budget even more and need to pic another motherboard.
Can anyone recommend one for £100-£150?
I will be adding another card further down the line and plan to OC my Q6600 to around 3.4-3.5Ghz at some point.

Rant over. :D

Don't touch the Asus P5Q series of boards, IMO!

Just Google for problems, and then decide for yourself!

I'm regretting every penny I've ever given Asus.

Ok thanks but that doesn't really help with me choosing a motherboard to Sli.
or do you not think its worth Sli'ing seenas for now i will only be using a 22" monitor possibly 24".

So yeah, can anyonne recommend a single card board?
or should i just stick with my original choice of the biostar tpower p45?

780i based board is probably your best bet, or you could go with the 750i *** very good board.

How about google any bord at look for problems because every single one will have a thread somwhere online about how crap it is. I have had 2 duff mobo from gigabyte but wont go into threads saying their crap as they have many people using the them problem free as does the asus community have theirs, not having ago at you mate but people should start posting help/advise instead of being necative if your going post on a help thread(no offence intended) :D

back on track take a peek at these mate

EVGA 123-YW-E175-A1, NF750i SLI ForTheWin
XFX MB-750I-72P9, NF750i SLI MCP

Yeah but Asus P5 series boards have serious build quality issues - not to say some don't run fine but theres a very high chance the northbridge will degrade, memory controller go kaput, the dimm slots are particularly bad and even when the memory controller is ok sometimes they will stop working.

People seem to think if they ignore this issue it will go away - I'm not sure why.

That said I really wouldn't touch an (nForce) SLI board either - the X58 is fine (not nForce) but thats an expensive build, 790i supposedly isn't too bad but thats kinda pricey and you'd be better off going towards X58/i7 at that price range. 780i is chancy and potentially problem prone, 680i generally is just horrendous, theres the odd good 650i and 750i board but you'd have to do your research to find them. I'd say your best bet here is probably the eVGA 750i F.T.W. edition - but theres no guarantees.

I get the feeling its not worth getting a SLi ready board for less then about £200 as more likely than not im gonna have problems

I am now thinking about not forgetting SLi because i am going to get a decent 22" (maybe 24" monitor which i will use for a while, so there really is no need to SLi a gtx 280 at those kind of resolutions. And if i do want another card in what ever amount of time just get a new board (although that is a bit of a pain)

Unless you think i might as well get a SLi ready for when i eventually do decide to chuck in another card.

What do you reckon?

The thing is now that i have spent another £80 on a different graphics card i would preferably liek to save money elsewhere so would idealy like to spend around £110 on a motherboard

I wouldn't bother with the SLi mate, just stick with that P45. The 280 will run everything you want on a 22"/24" nicely.

I was originally trying to decide between the asus p5q pro and the deluxe but then came to the conclusion that the deluxe is too expensive and the biostar tpower p45 is better than the p5q pro, what do you reckon?

What's problem? If one retailer is out of stock get it (or everything) from somewhere else. Prices are pretty much the same across several components for all the two retailers.

Both would be alright, but I hear the biostar is getting a lot of love for its overclocking abilities - I would be more inclined to try that out.

the problem is that it was at a ridiculously cheap offer price @ £166 but now its sold out (meaning that i wont be able to get one under offer).

so now instead of spending full price for a 4870 1gb i have decided to pay like a extra £15 for a bgf gtx 280 oc and because of that i am rethinking the mobo.

Next time read the thread properly...

Thats what im swaing towards....but now its out of stock
First the samsung f1 500gb sells out, then the 4870 and now the biostar! this really isnt going to well. aha.
and before anyone says 'just order from somewhere else'...i would rather order everything in one go and OcUK is pretty much the cheapest site going.

Exactly... If I had done my homework better, I wouldn't have found out the hard way ;)

Though my P5WDG2-WS Pro , seemed better, it does seem especialy the P5Q series are very buggy indeed.

I keep promising myself to go that extra few £££ and get a SuperMicro board, but I'd be most upset if that gave me just as much jip.

Note to OP : You're not having much luck are you , keep ya pecker up, as the guiness poster says, he who waits.. it will be worth it in the end :)

Ok, so im going to stay away from the asus board then and just get a biostar tpower p45 hopefully from here if they come back in stock some time soon if no i shall be getting one elsewhere.

And no im not really having a lot of luck!

Thanks icey haj, that made me laugh ^^
it reminded me of a guiness picture that i have on here...

I think this is brilliant!

i am quite happy with my asus p45 board :D,

when you consider how many board are sold by asus obviously there will be some threads with issues. However, I think most asus owners are quite happy. Anyway am sure if you google any board you will find many threads with probs for each, in fact you can do that for any piece of hardware

try googling 780i ;)
