What a Waste?! Windows XP COA

Wellto be honest i got an upgrade version so it cost me £10 more. which meant it saved me about £110 if i had to buy oem each time. ;)

Yes OEM is for system builders but maybe OCUK should state it is only sold for system builders not every john smith.

Before these topics started coming up i deint even realise there was a helpline to ring up and i certainly didnt use it! :p Ever read the retail instruction manual, im pretty sure it makes it harder to do anything! Its shockingly bad.

While the theory is correct and OEM is meant to be for system builders there is still a big difference as far as I understand

with OEM you HAVE to buy a major piece of hardware at the same time as the oem licence / disc ( ie hdd, mobo , cpu or gfx card and NOT a keyboard or mouse etc) interestingly I am not sure if TFT / or CRT are included , even though from cost pov they are a major part as they arent internal i dont think they count.

With a retail copy you can buy just the disc and licence without a problem.

I dont know if the above "rule" is still true but it certainly used to

Amp not sure what you mean about saving £110 each time, but the major problem with upgrade software to MY mind is that you have to have another "lesser" licence to go with it, ie win 2k or win ME or something. Even if you only have to have the licence number of the previous variety to hand ( rahter than hassle with installing it first and then upgrading - which i know isnt necessary) i think the extra £10 to get a FULL version is worth it
