been looking at the "Panasonic DMC FZ8" for 190 tis quite nice etc but does any one have one and if so how would you rate them >?

I have one, and its been great. It does RAW, and the write times for the RAW files are great. Wide variety of modes, and the option of 1600 ISO is handy, but very noisy. The zoom on it is something else. Heres a few photos taken from blackpool tower with it to give you an idea.

Zoomed out

raw

awesome next weeks shopping list has arrived !!!!

basically a file that enables a dump of the sensor data ontouched to be edited in photoshop

its much better for bringing out dark pictures, removing blur etc.. as your working with the raw sensor data, rather than a jpeg which has already been processed by the camera. But at a price, the file size is approx 7mb instead of 1.

 woah !!!!!!

good news is you dont have to use it if you dont want. You can choose file type small (compressed jpeg) large (uncompressed jpeg about 1mb in size) and RAW.

so if you dont want to shoot RAW, just leave it on large and you can get something silly like 1400 photos on a 2gb card.

another neat feature of the camera is its unlimited video clip capability. I know others have this too, but i found it great on holiday. It shoots 30fps continuous film at 640 x 480 and will only stop filming when it runs out memory card space. With the FZ8 supporting SDHC cards, that could be along while as it supports 6gb SDHC cards !
