Hi guys,

what about this one off build from OCUK for 1266£s. Is it worth it, or should i build myself and order parts for the same money?

- Coolermaster Cosmos RC100 'S' Case
- Intel Core 2 Duo QX9650
- Thermalright Ultra Extreme Cooler
- 8GB Dominator 8500 DDR2 RAM
- Asus Rampage Extreme Motherboard
- Enermax Galaxy 850W PSU
- 2 X 1 Terabyte Samsung SATA-II HDD
- LG Super Multi Blu-Ray/ HD DVD/ DVD RW
- Asus Xonar D2 Soundcard.
- HIS ATi Radeon 4870 X2

Any help would be appreciated!

Doesn't the Asus extreme rampage require DDR3?

If so and you wish to pay that sort of money, then you are best off with an i7 to be honest.

If you are sticking to a C2D, then the Q6600 is over £100 cheaper and is easily clockable to 3.2GHz, you need only DDR2 and decent LGA775 motherboards are half the price too.

if your confident enough to build a pc then do it yourself building a pc is great fun. if your worried about it eithier invite a friend round to help or get ocuk to do it it is a lot of money for you to break a component

yes the extreme version uses ddr3 the formula version uses ddr2. like huddy said if your going for a C2D then downgrade the mobo etc to lga775

thank you...

thank you for all the advice-I think self built it will be. I think I will hold out a little bit longer for prices to come down for the processor and X58 mother boards.

but for £1293 (inc VAT and del) vs £1266 you were bout to spend you could get a nice i7 today ;)

no Blu Ray, but honestly better off using stand alone blu ray player, these PC drives are poor substitutes for movies, haven't heard of anything else than movies avail. on B-ray

the Gigabyte UD5 is basically the Extreme without the giant heat pipes. great board - check reviews online you won't be dissapointed

mobo has onboard HD multichannel sound, which should be more than enough

compromised on case for Antec 300, but you can't have it all ;)
