What age did you learn to drive at?

Are there any other late learners out there like me?

I passed a few months back at the age of 27, took me 4 years to learn (on and off) and this year finally made the decision to start again , switched instructor and got a good 10 lessons in before the test and passed with one minor.

the decision to switch instructor made a world of difference since he actually made me be confident in the car (hated lessons with my old instructor) and explained things much better than my old one ever did.

but your right, there are some retarded drivers around the worse ones being those that love to get up your ass, or decide to overtake you in retarded, illmannered fashion when they have zero road rights to do so , and then you end up catching them anyway due to traffic!

basically the most retarded drivers, are those that put themselves and others in danger to basically attempt to gain a car length and reduce 5 seconds of their journey.

The missus is currently going through her test at 24 and it's taking ages as she's failed one and doesn't have as much free time to do lessons.

Plus her insurance will be more expensive as she has had her licence for less time than if she had passed at 17. There really is no reason to not pass at 17 unless it's unaffordable.

17. Other than finances I don't understand the reasons behind waiting any longer than that. If its unaffordable fair enough but if it isn't it confuses me why some people wait so long before bothering.

I learnt the year i graduated as I had no need for a car as I lived local to uni and spent all my spare money on computers

Started lessons at 17 also, but ran out of money. Got a job which paid all my travel expenses, plus living in London with very good transport links meant I kept putting it off. I eventually took lessons again at 25 when I moved further afield and got my license.

Life? when I was 17 I was more concerned about my education then learning to drive as were most people.

So an hour lesson a week for 4-6 months takes too much time from your studies...?

Passed at 17. About a third of my year group passed at 16, a third at 17 and the last third either still aren't learning or are learning currently. I couldn't be bothered with it but I wanted to get it out of the way so just got on with it. Glad I did.

I was 18.

My advice to anyone without a license, do it sooner rather than later. Even if you have no intention of buying a car straight away. It's only going to get much harder and much more expensive!
