What am i doing wrong? I really don't get whats making my temps high...

temps.jpg

This is while i am just on lord of the rings online, PC on for around an hour, room is fairly warm too, temps just go slightly less if just on Desktop doing nothing...but i'd rarely do nothing of course :)

My spec is:

Gigabyte 3D Aurora 570 Black
Asus Maximus Formula Intel X38 (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR2 Motherboard
Intel Core 2 Quad Pro Q6600 "Energy Efficient SLACR 95W Edition" 2.40GHz
Zalman CNPS9700-LED CPU Cooler
BFG GeForce 8800 GTX OC2 768MB GDDR3 HDTV/Dual DVI (PCI-Express)
Corsair HX 620W ATX2.2 Modular SLI Compliant PSU
Western Digital Caviar SE16 500GB SATA-II 16MB Cache
Western Digital Raptor 150GB 10000RPM SATA 16MB Cache
Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi Xtreme Gamer 7.1 Sound Card

and i've just added these 2 today:

Akasa UV Reactive Transparent Blue System Exhaust Blower
Antec SpotCool System Cooler

I have also NOT overclocked yet.

So what is wrong? is my CPU one of the ones that get way hotter than others?? is it the CPU fan?? (few people with the same fan said they got lower reading). Or are those temps OK and i just deal with it?

Its just something thats bothering me i guess lol.

I bought my dad a Ultima 8800 QUAD overclocked machine from here, with the system builder, with the 6600 at 3.0 and all his temps are way lower on that machine too.

I'm just wondering what could be wrong :(

Any help / tips / discussion would be really helpfull please :)

Hello there, nice setup you have ;)

First thing i noticed you got 15% cpu usage on screeny, anything running in the backround?, down load ccleaner and install it and in utilities/ startup see what you dont need and delete it and reboot system and see if it runs a bit cooler.

Had a look at the review of the case and noticed the front intake vent is quite restricted and might not be pulling in much air over the hard drives and into the case, try taking the side panel off for a bit and see if the temps drop

I am sure someone with more info and tips with your mother board will be along soon :D

Hope this is a bit of help to get you started ;)

temps are about right for the zalman 97000 am afraid to say also poor airflow and warm ambient temp :(

Thanks so far guys :)
Thanks about the spec UltraDad too :)

Hmm i wonder if its a mix between the case and the CPU fan then...

I was going to go for a Tuniq at first, wasn't sure if it would fit the case or be too tall, also i've had Zalman before and quite liked it, so thought i'd get that one (what a NIGHTMARE to fit in though).

Will see what others say in replies though, thanks so far..

Not as bad this morning, its a lot cooler...

I still think something isn't right though :P

Oh my BIOS is flashed to 0907.

The thing is , i'm hoping to overclock to at least 3.0, i mean it should be fine with the spec i have...i just hope my temps are ok after,

Looks like the cooler could do with a re-seat. My 9700 required quite a few re-seats before the temps were "normal"

I used Arctic Silver 5 Thermal, the cooler was a pain to fit in...on this mobo i could only fit the back bracket that you screw into one way. The way which it fits on, it was a right pain to get the screws to both go in, you really needed to push down hard on one side for it to even reach the screw hole. But it did go in and is secured on now.

The paste i tried to spread around as evenly as i could, i hope there is not a bit too much there though..

I was first going to go for a Tuniq tower or Thermalright Ultra-120 but wasn't sure if they would fit in, i thought this Zalman would be okay.
