I put this under Hardware as this is a brand new build !

It gets the blue screen, the happy colourful one when installing Vista, the mouse pointer comes up and then nothing !

If I try XP it says can not copy to the drive ???

Asus P5k premium main board Q6600 proc, only got 2GB memory in at the mo

Have tried, two different SATA drives
One IDE drvie, Sata disconnected
IDE DVD drive the new one is SATA
Removing all the external USB etc ports from the motherboard.
Thats basically it
The graphics card is 7950gt and the picture is fine
BIOS picks up all the drives and CPU is at 23 c

What have I missed ??? Please help

Have you tested the memory using memtest86+ and tested the drives using the diagnostic tools from the respective vendor?

No and no. The memory is brand new 4 seperate modules.

The hard drive one of them is brand new the other is out of my other system freshly formatted

Ah, ok... fair enough. What about the cables... have these been used in a different system without any problems too?

The cables I used first where bran new. I'm using old ones from my previous system.

Its moved a bit further the select location came up now its just saying please wait

Im not sure if its just Vista or something else but Vista 64 loaded really slowly for me too, and at times I thought that it had stopped. XP loaded a lot faster for me too. But once Vista got near the end it did alright, and its now running fine :)

Maybe its the 64 version then, I only installed in once before and it was quick"

Its at 62% now.. hopefully I can install the mainboard drivers and all will be well
