Thinking of spending a lot of money and building a new rig as this is boring.

But want to be like the old days of AMD only so no nvidia or intel!

But what amd cpu is better than a q9450 ? im running at 3.2ghz.

Have a noctua tower to cool it.

BTW the new spec includes 2 30" dell IPS :D

I wouldn't go from a Q9450 to AMD. I like AMD a lot - most of my PCs have been AMD based but I don't think you'll achieve anything much on an AMD rig that you couldn't get clocking the Q9450.

Anyway - fatest AMD chip is currently the Phenom II x4 965 Black Edition.

Edit: If you want to see some gains, and spend lots, an i7 rig (or maybe i5) would be the way to go. Even then, I think it's mainly benchmarks where you'll see a difference.

unless you do a lot of encoding / intensive multi-tasking any new CPU is a sidestep AMD or Intel

As Uriel suggests the 965BE is currently AMD's fastest CPU

Don't change out the CPU, in my opinion Yorkfield is better than Phenom 2 chips. I would even go for a 775 yorkfield system over an AM3 if building a new system as AMD can barely manage 3.8GHz or so. Just get an ATI gpu if you want to use that encoding tool.
