Ive kitted my car out with some pioneer stuff but I need to start looking at amps/subs to go with now.

my kit so far:

Pioneer TS-A170CI front componants - 260watt
Pioneer TS-A6903i 6x9s - 350watt
and Pioneer DEH-2120UB headunit

As a newbie I dont understand what I need, all I see is the numbers?! do I need a 2channel or 4channel. I would like to add a sub eventually. I dont want to spend loads though I got the above quite well priced.

That HU has a preout so you should be able to just get an all in one active sub.

So all you need is the preout cable, power lead to the battery and then an earth.

That's the easiest method :)

the headunit you have got limits you to adding a single amp only, a 2 channel amp that will get bridged to run a sub if you wanted to.

You should have got a headunit with 3 RCA preouts, so you could have bought a 4 channel amp to run the speakers listed and a the 2 channel for the sub, but hey thats just me.

For starters get rid of the 6x9s. Then get yourself a 4 channel amp. Run the comps up front with 2 channels and bridge the last two to run your sub. You can get a decent 10" subwoofer and box for under £200. Don't go cheap on your amp.

how would he run a 4 channel amp from one RCA output? there are ways, but they are nasty

Number of ways that would work. Splitter boxes (powered ones to up the voltage are better). Get a 4 channel amp that can run off one line input.

Or in worst case, If the amp has a line out connect it to the second line in or just get some normal RCA splitter cable, but voltages will drop and it will sound poo.

Should have bought a better head unit in the first place if that was the intention - would have saved a lot of headaches
