Hi there guys,

I've done just over 500 miles this week in my Saxo, spent around £55 doing it (well government has) and it is not suitable for the mileage I am doing.

I have had a test drive in a Skoda Fabia VRS, Grande Punto JTD Sporting and Astra CDTi SRI 150.

My mates have been saying "why not an 03/04 320/330D" and I have been saying I need warranty.

Do I though? Would a BMW diesil cost me much to run?

I'm not keen on the Mondeo ST TDCI or the Octavia and Vectra's.

A3/3 series size is what I am after.

The mileage I am doing isn't sitting in the car for hours about 30-40 miles a go.

I don't like barges.

The Fabia's handling is pure shocking and they look BLAND imo.

The only reason why I was thinking Punto/Astra is because they'd have waranty.

No car = no work = no money.

The Grande Punto sporting is a decent looking car imo.

And it seems like you are pretty much repping, or at least doing the driving of one?

I'm a field technician.

Going out reparing peoples computers, printers and laptops.

Have to drive 120 miles twice a week (240 miles) and then the rest of my calls are 30-40 miles away. The majority of calls being located in a 10 mile radius of each other so short journeys after the initial journey.

My problem is, it's replacing my current personal car and that car is fun to drive. The Fabia was incredibly dull to throw around.

I'd have a Mondeo ST TDCI if the mpg wasn't 48.

I can get 44mpg in my Saxo!

I keep seeing men in their 40's driving these Mondeo ST TDCI's around. Think I will look out of place!

The problem I am finding with BMW's is insurance. I'm doing 25k miles a year it has to be business class. Pushes it right up.

Mondeo ST insurance would be £1400.

I drove down to London on Monday and about an hour into the journey, I started to experience discomfort in my lower back. I arrived in London and my lower back was numb!

Offset pedals for the lose.

Did this a few weeks back on the Astra SRI's because it was easier.

Astra 1.8 SRi VVTi 120 XP 30,000 miles, 39mpg @ 106.9p = £3738.29

Astra 1.9 CDTi SRI 150 XP 30,000 miles, 48mpg @ 118.9p = £3378.31

Petrol's insurance group is 8. Diesels is 12.

My miles will mainly consist of twisty, Welsh, A roads, somedays a 250 mile round trip to the Welsh coast.

Petrol or Diesel!? My Saxo won't be doing 42mpg on these roads, probably 38mpg.

A Golf TDi would be doing 53-55mpg?
