What Anti Virus Software?

I need to put some AV software on a friends pc, she has desktop and a laptop that her daughter uses MSN a lot, which has caused problems before (so she tells me)

At the moment they have a trial version on both, what do you guys reckon is a good choice? A free version would be the best option, however if nothing stands out a mid priced AV that would be able to go on both.

Any advice would be much appreciated

i got round the firewall via the wireless, dunno why it's blocked! anyway yeah that looks good cheers guys, do you both use it?

There are two versions. A very good free version and a paid for. I use the free version on my laptop at home.

Having setup a few machines, it is what I have put on them, both Vista 32bit and XP...works well...

they are a few pretty good ones, avast, kaspersky etc, AVG for free as well.

will paying for an antivirus be "safer" than getting a free one? Mine just expired today and im hesitating to pay for a years subscription when i know there are free ones out there

Iv had some major issues with AVAST free edition recently, all on Vista 32bit.

My dads PC recently had to be rebuilt from scratch, its a 3gig P4, no exactly modern but enough for Vista.

After installing Vista it kept on giving me the BSOD, sometimes when I run nero, other times Bit Che, I managed to track it down to AVAST. I unistalled it and put NOD32 on it and its 100% stable,

Just glad to get to the bottom of it, i was pulling my hair out, Bit Che also crashed my works laptop (which has AVAST free on it) and sure enough, as soon as I took it off, it worked.

It really does seem like you have to pay if you want a reliable stable product

i was workinga round a friends house last night, they have the full blown norton......... what a pig!!! total crap! slows the pc to a halt!
