What are 3 like as a mobile network?

I've always heard bad reports about the network itself, crap signals etc...?

I'd like some opinions from first hand experience with them. I'm looking at the new N95 8GB.

I'm with O2, but would like an alternative incase they won't offer me the phone.

I'm not on them, but my friend is, and most of the time hes got nil or one bar of
signal, and ive heard nothing but bad reports about them :S

A friend of mine is with them, and he's always complaining that their customer service are useless.

I certainly can't comment, as I work for the company - so it would be a little biased.

Await the response from those that are on the network, rather than those that have heard this and that.

All I would recommend is for you to check your coverage on the 3 site (http://www.three.co.uk/personal/help_support_/network_coverage_/index.omp). If you are in a less populated area, find someone on Orange 2G to ask what their coverage is like.

I'd certainly recommend 3 for those that use their phones for more than calling / sending SMS. The data packages that they offer can't be beaten (generally cheaper and the X-Series packages are not really restricted in anyway - i.e. you can use VoIP with fring etc.).

Any questions, just ask. (Note, technical faults/MNP are my areas - so might not be able to answer other queries like billing)

Thanks for that, looks like my area is good for 3G.

I'm going to speak to O2 soon and find out what they can offer me regarding the new N95 8GB.

Been with 3 16 months, been fine with me, also did 3 refer a friends which pocketed me £90 and them £30 each.

Got my upgrade a few days ago a N95 with 300mins,650texts and 25mms and 25video +£5 downloads a month for £25 a month on a 12 month contract. Then i get a letter 2 weeks later saying there giving me £15 a month off my bill for being loyal so i will pay £10 a month, cant argue with that.

Customer service and my signal have always been fine.

That is mentally cheap. I get less minutes, less texts and no data, and no phone for £15 or something :/

I thought £25 a month was good, but the letter shocked me.

I spend most of my time in London, where the 3g (and HSDPA) is rock solid. Signal is fine in most other towns and cities I've been to. When I'm out in the sticks, I lock my phone to 2G and that works just fine (I've got a debranded firmware and squawkBOX - you didn't read that ;) )

My father and girlfriend are with them and both have better reception than me generally, and both better than their previous networks (orange and o2 respectivey).

The only reason I didn't move to 3 was due to the offer I had from o2.

Been with the network 18 months and already shared my pain with bobbyboy elsewhere.

their customer service isnt just useless its frankly embarrassing.

i am coming off the same tariff as bobby (so is my wife). last week we were called by the scottish lot and offered 2 free LG viewtys for 26.50 a month - that was on a flexible tariff with £180 allowance per month to be used on whatever.

i thought that was a good deal but i didnt want a viewty - i wanted an N95. SO asked if we could have that deal with one Viewty, one N95 "no problems" i was told.

phones arrived yesterday. sent my wife the n95 and me a SEW910.

so called 333 (ie Bombay) - explained it all, was virtually accused of lying and told that if i wanted the LG viewty to be swapped for the SE i had to pay £60.

wrote a letter of complaint and all i got was a phone call today saying "got your email, note you arent happy and want to return phones, jiffy bags in post"

no apology, no improved upgrade offer - nothing.

this after buzzing handset and call dropping problems that took loads of calls to bombay to sort out, plus they "forgot" to credit the refferals to my account

3 can go and whistle. they would have to offer me bobbys deal with an n95 8gb to stay. and they aren't going to.

another 3 employee elsewhere has stated that if your bills are on average under 35 quid a month, the network just want rid of you. they only want big spenders.

the only problem is - is that i cant find anything like the deal offered for 26.50 - but if i have to pay a bit more a month, it will be worth it just to not have to deal with a bunch of lying crooks.

and since my last rant, i was checking my wifes usage on "my3" and I have discovered they have been charging her double the line rental they should have been doing since July last year.

good grief

Oh i they did that to me on the 9th or 10th month, happened to a few of us on the dtt1400 tarrif, i soon sorted it tho, they claimed the n70 wasnt a refurb, when it was. they refunded me £90 for overcharging me by £30

They are absolutely awful, pray that you never need to contact customer services and that you dont get randomly charged for stuff you never use.

I had an issue with them and they only started doing anything about it after contact with ofcom and communication to the executive office. Three customer services in india will deny that a call centre in the UK exists, even though I spoke to them on a few occasions.

I recently changed from 02 to 3 and wished i hadnt bothered. I cant get a signal in my home town and have to drive a mile and a half to get signal.

In london here and get a great reception for calls and data services.

Customer service isn't great but i've had just as bad if not worse with other companies (i'm looking at you O2). I was happy enough to sign my wife up to another 18 month contract a few months ago.

Personally i think their packages are unbeatable, i'm on £15 a month 500 minutes, wife is on £15 with 300 minutes or texts, which i think is a great flexible package for moderate users.
