Right so I have 4 usb headers on my motherboard, but only 2 are being used. I am also short on USB ports for my long list of accessories. I am not keen on using a USB hub, I would rather use the extra headers I have spare.

So the simple solution is to get somne of the pci-slot usb ports to usb heaer block thingies. So what the heck are those things known as ?

I've tried usb to pci slot header thingy on google as well as OCUK but nothing comes back :)

So just to be sure ... I want that PCI slot bracket that usually has up to 4 USB connectors on it, with 1 to 4 cables leading away from the bracket, the cables ending in USB header blocks that I can plug onto my motherboard's spare usb headers.

Any ideas?

Thanks

Why not buy a USB2 Hub ?

they take up less room in your case than a pci card, I would prefer to use the mobo headers too

Exactly. Also why have something drawing extra resources/power etc, disrupting airflow (although they cards are noy huge, they still take space and disrupt a certain amount of airflow).

The usb ports on the mobo are there, enabled. Final argument - the USB bracket is cheaper too :) (£1-47 for a 4 port version).

My USB PCI card cost 99p from the bay, its also low profile so I dont see how a 2cm wide piece of plastic can interfeer with airflow anymore than some wires, and it sits at the very bottem of my case, roughly 5mm above the top of my psu where no airflow is directed or needed, and the USB headers on my mobo are used for the front panel....

your arguments against a PCI card are slim to say the least, but it is nothing more than 2 ways of achiveing the same thing, so each to their own.

Indeed as you say each to their own.

As a counter though, on price alone - I paid £1-47 incl shipping for the bracket. The cheapest pci card (low profile) I could find was £0-39 (on the bay) but to be shipped from Hong Kong at £4-99. There are some UK sellers at around 99p too, but once again the shipping ranges from £3-99 to £6-99.
