What are my chances of getting this iPhone 5 replaced?

hehe :) my Iphone 4 has been best gadget I've owned - just not convinced one with slightly better and larger display will wow me - fancy fiddling with something different

to the OP - looks like you have good case (sorry for pun) for replacement - so good luck :)

Hmm... it seems that Aluminium melts at over 500 degrees centigrade and softens for annealing at over 300 degrees centigrade

if your phone is reaching these sorts of heats then you have either left it in a pizza oven or your battery is combusting... a CPU or battery will never (in normal use) reach this sort of temperature. the internal solder joints would melt !

OP, you may find a sympathetic genius...but it is a pretty long stretch to think that your phone has melted.

Ive been on the iPhone 5 "returning" scene since it came out due to scuff gate. Best bet is that if it was due to heat, they WILL return it.... BUT, theyll give you a white boxed iPhone which are mostly refurbished handsets that have been returned to Apple as they had some sort of fault.
People have said that all they do is send it off to Apple for a wipe down and chuck it into a white box.
Since demand is low now adays, try and persuade the geniuses to let you get your hands onto a retail boxed one. Many people have and the 5's that are boxed now dont suffer from WiFi or scuff gate issues.

There is nothing "wrong" with a refurbished handset, they have been returned for faults or refunds but will have had parts replaced to ensure that faults are fixed, as with any other company. This said, the early replacement devices came with all kinds of marks and scratches, unfortunately due to the manufacturing process, and I suspect that several were just "thrown back" as described. However, you should be receiving a phone that is, in terms of functionality and to the 99th percentile in terms of condition, as new.

As for getting a retail boxed model, unless you have just bought the phone and are looking to do a refund/repurchase, you won't get a retail model. The normal process is to order in a CRU unit (which takes a frankly ridiculous two weeks in store, but two days through AppleCare on the phone) if you've gone through several replacements. This is just a retail unit that they need to order in (I don't know why).

I agree, go find yourself a sympathetic genius at the applestore. Quote the heat problem and see if they'll replace it.

Good luck!

Oh and don't tell them about the bent chassis. They might overlook it and focus more on the heat issue... just an idea. :p

In my post I do say that some phones are just cleaned and boxed without having faults removed.
Also, it is completely possible of getting a retail boxed iphone. It is particularly easier if you are unhappy with multiple white boxed iPhones. There is much evidence on a different forum which had all sorts of scuff gate rage but I'm not sure if I'm allowed to post links to other forums.

Phone replaced (with a brand new one no less) no questions asked. This is why Apple customer service owns :)

Can I ask what you actually told them? I'm looking to getting my I5 replaced as mine is bent also.

Don't have the foggiest on how I've done it (probably drunk at the time) but all I know is that I want to try and get it replaced.

Any help is much appreciated!

Cheers!

I work for the apple store and we would replace that unit if you said you have issues with the home botton not working. (even though the home button is working fine)
