What are nice temps for cpu/gpu at idle?

Im playing with my new fan controller and trying to find the balance between temperature and noise...

what would be desirable/acceptable temps for cpu / gpu when doing the whole tinterweb browsing / movie watching?

Currently got my front fan off... my middle, rear and cpu fans at 50%/ 650rpm / 6.0v which gives me temps of around 50C across cpu / gpu.

not OC'd atm.

Are the hard drives mounted in the front of the case?
It would probably be worth keeping the front fan on low to bring in cooler air.

that does sound pretty poor tbh

you should look at increasing airflow in your case.

my 2500K idles at 28-30c, same for CF5850's and temps never go past 65c even under benching :)

40c is still far too hot for the CPU.

Mine idles high 20's, low 30's when it downclocks to 1.6ghz (which overclocked or not would do) with the fan running about 400rpm

It's not FAR too hot at idle. It's possibly a little over.

35-38 would be good enough idle temperatures for a CPU of this caliber. My i7 Core 3820 3.6GHz idles at 28-30 which I consider to be fairly low so 35-38 wouldn't be bad at all.

You should have gone for the Arctic Silver thermal compound. It's the best rated paste on the market. I'm not sure how good that one is, though.

Also, do you have any existing case fans in your PC? You need a good amount of intake and exhaust fans [intake ideally at front, bottom (optional) and sides and exhaust at top and back].

A good airflow set up would be something like:

Intake: 1 at the front, 2 on the sides, 1 at the bottom
Exhaust: 1 at the back, 2 at the top

With that you are pretty much guaranteed positive airflow. It is recommended to have the same amount of intake as exhaust if not more intake.

Ive got a FT02b so have got the standard 3 x 180mm bottom fans (intake) and 2 x GT 1850's on my cpu cooler (exhaust). I could try making the cpu fans intake to get cooler air from outside of the case, but then i dont have an exhaust fan and i dont think the lian li fan alone will be enough...

The plan with the lian li drive bay cooler is to push or suck air over my aquaero (and its new heatsink that will be fitted at the same time) which keeps over heating and should also effect my 'bottom' gpu as its always 5-10 degrees hotter. I'll have to experiment with intake/exhaust.

I looked into the pastes n found lower temps on the pk-1, if its poor then i can always try another brand lol, its fairly inexpensive imo.

I'll be sure to post back any findings as it may help someone else :-)....

^^ thanks for that, gives me a target lol.
Anyone else got any temps to share?
