harvest day is my favourite map. its the most open and expansive map. the majority of the rest are linear maps that promote spawn camping. BF3 is the same. both games have some poor map designs if you ask me.
Any of the original maps are fun. The newer maps (including Harvest Day, Oasis, etc) are all pretty bleh unless you like camping and/or running for hours without seeing anyone.

Got tired of it quite quickly as it's a spam fest. Had a break from it and approached the game from a new angle (ie this is not BF2) and found that it's great! Rush is.better imo, the maps are two small for conquest. Personal favourite is Atacama or however it's spelt
I agree with your points about the map designs being terrible (worse in BF3 if I'm honest).
BC2 is a game that is about frantic running around and things exploding. It doesn't translate well to a slow-paced tactical shooter and that's why I prefer the smaller maps to the larger ones.
Panama for the win, nice fast map which does not get to much if that makes sense. You have plenty to shoot at and also some nice spots to camp. Camping is a huge plus in any BF games. I love finding a nice spot and killing everyone until someone works it out, sneaks up on me and knifes me
