Basically i need a new Monitor this year, its on its last legs. and my Big 32" widescreen is too big for my room, so decided to downgrade that to save space, was thinking of replacing the 32" to a 17" LCD or something

then i came accross these LCDs with built in TV tuners, but what is the quality like on them ?

thanks

Not sure why no one has replied I have a 19" Samsung which is used as a tv and a pc monitor, does the job fine for both, cost £300 and is fully equipped for high definition.

Hi mate

I am not sure what you have... Is it just a TFT? or is it one of them built in TV tuners? if its the later, whats the TV quality like?

Is it worth getting one HD ready?

What i mean is, i suppose the TV quality would be a huge difference once it's enabled or what ever it will do ?

I will probabally get one in the Summer, or will try and hold of longer, but this 32" widescreen TV on this desk gets in the way, when i want to watch a film in surround sound, i need to shift the TV to the centre and clear my desk. lol

If you plan on using it for pc use then you'd need a decent resolution so you'll probably end up with one thats hd ready anyway of course it depends what your viewing habits are, if sky hd bluray xbox 360 etc interests you

I have got a Samsung 730MW, I think it is an older model but I picked it up for £250.

Its 17" widescreen and have it hooked up to sky via rgb scart. Apparently it is HD via a hdcp compliant DVI (whatever that means...)

Whats HDCP ?

thanks for all your replies guys, very informative! Keep em' comming

High Definition Content protection. ie Macrovision for HD. Only connections through HDMI or DVI will support this and there 2 versions of DVI, one for PC use and one for TV use. ie my LCD TV doesn't support PC use through the DVI but does at least have a seperate VGA port for PC use(no HDCP on that though)

I had a look in John Lewis today and, I walked around, and then I noticed the Plasma screens etc, then i thought of these LCD/TV screens, so I had a look (the busiest place in the store!!) and they have a few on display, the quality of the TV wasen't too bad, not as good as a normal TV though! it was grainy, i noticed a lot of grain on the screen, was hopeing a bit better than that, i'll have to look somewhere to get a more of an idea.

to be honest though, i dont really want 2 screens in my room, so i might be forced to get one anyway...

I have a Philips 23" LCD Tv and I personally find the TV RF picture to be pretty poor in comparison to our CRT downstairs, it just kinda looks a little more blocky and the colours never seem to get anything like as good despite tweaking of settings. Its passable via RGB scart from the Sky box just not super TBH.
However through the VGA feed its superb on 360 and PC, was surprised to find that it supported 720p and 1080 from the Xbox without any bother (specs only list it as supporting 1024x768 which is odd as its widescreen) and I cant remember the PC res but it was higher than the manual says.
