The Redlaser app on iphone scans QR codes - having read this thread I fired up the app store to get a QR specific app and what do you know, Redlaser released an update with 'improved QR scanning' today :)

Android users should use Quickmark instead of Barcode Scanner, it's much more in depth and better. And allows you to create a variety of custom QR codes from various things.

Why?

The last thing I want is to mess around creating QR codes from my phone, I've just installed it, and Barcode Scanner is better, quicker, doesn't make stupid noises, AND uses less resources.

Why do I want to launch a barcode reading app, and it not go straight to a barcode reading function?

Useless.

Oh, and epic use of a quickmark only barcode when trying to convince people to switch from one that can't read it ;)

Exactly, all I want to do is to read them quickly.

Good job on just installing it and then moaning without looking at the settings screen where you can turn off sounds (barcode scanner has the exact same option). The default setting for Barcode Scanner is to beep so your noise argument is invalid.

Quickmark is just more fully featured (I do use both though), you're saying it's effort to make one extra click after launching Quickmark? At least you have the option of either scanning or entering the code where a barcode may have been damaged so cannot be scanned properly.

The history screen is more detailed on Quickmark as opposed to Barcode Scanners popup dialogue that just shows a list of items instead of what they were be they ISBN, content, text, QR etc.

As for resources, Barcode Scanner is 0.8MB, Quickmark is 1.3. What a waste of memory indeed.

What do I need features for, I want it to read the barcode in front of my face and either provide me with a URL, or the text contained within. What other options would I ever, EVER need?

Ironic that it's called QUICKmark, it's slower (to load, and then to use) than Barcode Scanner.

At least you have the option of either scanning or entering the code where a barcode may have been damaged so cannot be scanned properly.

99.9999999% of QR codes have no "code" to enter anyway. And I'd never need to scan a normal barcode with it, I mean, why? What for?

History of scanned items? Why? Why would I even care?

Resources are resources, regardless of the small differences, more is still more.

It's clear we're talking about different contexts entirely. You're going on about QR codes and only QR codes. I'm on about barcodes covering all types of barcode, not just QR code and this is where Quickmark is the more ideal option (having been a long term user of both).

FYI, it loads in exactly the same time as barcode scanner on my phone, I suggest checking your phone's "resources".

If you're that bothered about 1 click then in Launcher Pro (probably other launchers too) you can create an activity shortcut to Quickmark to load just the scanner when clicked and there you have it, instant scanning without having to make one extra click.

History of scanned items? Why? Why would I even care?

Come on, surely you're smart enough to think things through. You're complaining about little things like a few hundred extra KB yet you refuse to accept that at some point you might want to backtrack scanned item history for whatever reason or someone might bring something up in a conversation where it might come in handy.

As I said, I use both scanners and I find Quickmark a fuller package. Both are free so you use what you use at the end of the day but that doesn't make Quickmark

At least put a valid argument forward next time instead of whatever rages you at first sight.

Well I do apologise for my choice of wording in that particular post as I'm usually otherwise, always pro choice and customisation.

You still moaned for no reason though in the same style as you have done in other threads in the past.

These are used for a wide variety of reasons. In the transport industry, we print them on the bus stop timetables allowing you to scan the QR code for downloading/viewing the timetable in full - or just the next xx number of buses.
