What are you doing at uni?

Heriot Watt up by Edinburgh. Was going to come straight in at 2nd year (I love the area :)), but I missed out by a grade with my maths. I was basically too lazy to study for it and ended up getting a bit of a suprise on my Mechanics 2 and Pure 3 exams .

Where do you study?

I'll be starting a 1 year PGCE in Biology and Balanced Science in september at MMU. Will be strange being a student again after 3 years of normal life. My first degree was in Environmental Science.

And what exactly have 3rd world countries got to do with me getting a job after uni and a psychology degree. Also they dont shun courses like that at all, do you actually know what you are talking about?

My mum's an NHS 'professional' and happen to know there are plenty of jobs involving psychology in the UK and the NHS through looking through their vacancy posts, and thats just England, just think of the USA, thats a messed up nation who are crying for psychologists.

What im trying to say is you wont find student who are here to study and planning on going home after their degree to better themselve doing a course like that. There is just no market for it.
I am not saying there isnt a Job in the countries like the UK and US but Africa and part of asia.

Right well thats over there isnt it, not over here. And also why not Asia you're only talking in the 3rd world parts of Asia and Africa and in them cases you wouldnt get people coming over to do degrees in the first place.

I'm just starting to look at Medicine with Maths, Chemistry and Biology at A Level with an AS in History. Initially, I was looking at Biochemistry but after discussing it with a Research Pathologist who was looking at an identical career path to myself, she advised me to do Medicine. I looked into it more specifically and found that she is, of course, fully correct. You also get paid considerably more. :D

Did Chemistry and Human Biology at A-Level. I study Pharmacology and Neuroscience. Great course.

Medicine is, indubitedly, harder to get into that Biochemistry though, bear that in mind. A mate of mine who had AAA in physics, biology and chemistry even got turned down. It's tough to get into, merely because of the competition for the few spaces available, but it depends entirely on who you apply to. Two of my mates got into medicine with AAB and ABB respectively..

most of it was straight forward to be honest, apart from assembly language programming.

Both courseworks were about assembly and we weren't really taught any beforehand. Think prior knowledge was assumed. Really let down my grade in that module.

that has to be the worst reason to get into medicine, ever
if you want a job for the money - go into pharmaceuticals

I'm at Bristol so we probably haven't met. Probably get our results around the same time, within a couple of weeks for us. Not looking forward to it to be honest.

Medicine is not a great career from what I've seen (I'm a 5th year medical student) too much hard work, too many grumpy people to deal with and not enough money. I'll stick it out though, mainly because being a doctor is so damn cool :D

Oops read your post wrong, since both our courseworks were asm also hehe. Think your right about the dates though yeah.

I've just finished AS levels, consisting of Maths, Physics, ICT and Media Studies and the areas I am looking into are business/marketing/software engineering. I think most likely I will do a combined honours - does this affect ability to do a masters? anyone doing combined think it is a good choice?
