What are your 'must have' options / functionality?

Hi, sorry, me again. What is adaptive cruise control? Does it automatically change dependant on speed limit changes or something?

It slows down and speeds up to a set distance from the car infront so that you dont need to manually manipulate the cruise control in traffic. Its a very useful feature as constantly plussing the minusing on the motorway can get frustrating if you are in traffic which is moving in waves.

Primary thing it maintains is vehicle speed.

However secondary is manages the gap between you and the car infront. So when at 70mph it will hold that speed until you reach a slower car in the same lane. If its doing 65mph your car will slow to 65mph and maintain the gap betwen you and the lead car.

The gap can be adjusted. If you or the car move lane then it will return to speed of 70mph if the RADAR view is clear.

If you move lane to overtake and use the indicator some systems also give you a boost in acceleration to match target speed faster as it assumes you will be joining a traffic lane of faster flow; hence it makes speed to get to target ASAP.

Basically you set a speed 'target' and the car will detect cars who pull out in front of you or are moving slower and will reduce your speed to the car in front.

Neat thing I enjoyed (at least on the Volvo I drove) is that if your 'target' is say 75mph and the car in front is doing 65, you'll follow at 65mph then when you indicate right to overtake it'll kick in and give a decent bit of acceleration to get up to speed to overtake.

As I said, drove about 200-odd miles on the motorway and can't have pressed the pedals more than half a dozen times, made the drive completely effortless :p

*edit*

Or in otherwords exactly what jonny just wrote :p

It uses a radar to monitor whats going on infront of you, it then takes whatever speed and follow distance you've set and uses the radar to keep the distance / match speed of traffic infront of you, or if no traffic will sit at the speed you set.

If something pulls out infront of you the car will slow down, if that thing moves out of the way the car speeds up.

Mine also monitors for collisions and will stop the car if needed.

Queue Assist is coming aswell (RADARS generally mounted higher) so it stop start traffic the car just follows the car infront without the driver needing to press any pedals.

Again, this has been a feature on the S-Class since 2005 with the introduction of the MY06 W221.:)

I'd imagine that the A8 has had it for years too, unless Audi are really this far behind Mercedes? (2005 for Mercedes as i say).

AC blasts cold air at you.

Climate you tell it what temperature you want the cabin to be and it makes it so!

Can I get you t call my wife and explain? She is constantly messing with our cc. I'm a bit hot ill put it on full tilt, it's cold, heater to the rescue. Its dual zone so more the principle.

manual gearbox
a heater for winter

other than that i'm not too fussed. its nice to have auto wipers, electric seats are slow and annoying, auto lights annoy me, power folding mirrors are just more expense when they get knocked off. in build satnavs are a joke 90% of the time and cost loads to replace a disc every time you want to update maps.

an loudish exhaust is nice.

Ooooh and I would like a fuel computer and a fuel gauge which works properly. :p

Fuel computer is the worst thing ever, you look at it all the time, you feel bad when it goes down and drive frustratingly trying to get it to go up.

I got a picture of mine showing 11.9mpg the other day :D

I'm surprised at the popularity of parking sensors in this list, can't stand them personally! Noisy and way to eager to tell you you're close, plus blind to some dangers like towbars (a parking camera I could get to like....)

Edit: Mine would be 4 wheels & a steering wheel, go faster pedal, go slower pedal, handbrake, lights, wipers, washers. Avoiding 'throttle', 'brake' etc as I don't care how, so long as I can press it harder at the right times :D

Mine wasnt too far above that on the AVG setting.

I think i averaged 17mpg in a 3.2 v6 Golf
