What basic knowledge is needed to be network support ?

Surely if they are asking these questions and you can't answer then you are not the right person for the job?

Networking for Dummies is probably a good start and will give you a broad enough scope to do that sort of job. Go to your library and see what they have?

MAC address
IP Addressing IPv4
IPv4 Subnetting
IP Addressing IPv6
Routing Protocol
BGP (Border Gateway Protocol)
IS-IS (Intermediate System to Intermediate System)
OSPF (Open Shortest Path First)

First 3 maybe - but the rest!! I dont think so..................

If you don't know the basics then you obviously are not interested in the job so why not just look for a job doing something that you are interested in rather than try and quickly learn the bare minimum from scratch in an area you not interested in?

It may seem like a good idea to somehow get the job, but my worry for you would be that you will end up looking like an idiot.

I really wouldn't blag it when there is a good chance you'll be busted. All it'll take is one student to start talking networking indepth and it's game over.

My last interview went pretty well. It was when they started asking me technical questions where I sounded pretty clueless. Had no idea how to find the mac address, or what is was, and couldnt describe what an IP actually was.

I'm honestly wondering which part of the interview you were comfortable with. That bit where they ask you your name and that of the course you're currently studying?

Like I said, the routing stuff probably not. But at a university I would expect it do be dual stack by now, so the Ipv6 stuff becomes essential!
