What book are you reading...

The Battle of Mogadishu: First Hand Accounts From the Men of Task Force Ranger - 9/10

While the BlackHawk Down book written by Mark Bowden was the overall story here he's helped 6 various members recount their individual storys of the day, from the grunt on the ground to the CSAR crews trapped at the 1st crash site.

It's a very honest book detailing both the amazing heroics and the terrible decisions that ordinary soldiers made which had an impact for the rest of their lives.

Just finished The Book Thief by Markus Zusak. A heart warming yet at the same time soul destroying novel.

Next up....Either the Rum Diary or The Hunger Games.

Can anyone reccomend me a good NOVEL about world war 1/2?

Not just eye witness accounts but a proper story with a beginning/middle/ending.

Doesn't matter if its a obvious classic, I won't have read it.

Thanks guys

Sebasian Faulkes' 'Birdsong' is an excellent WWI novel. 'All Quiet On The Western Front' is seen as an absolutely seminal work on the same.

Re-reading the whole of the Wheel of Time books by Robert Jordan. Having recently read book 13 I found some of the boring books (7-9) a lot more interesting this time round as you spot things that make so much more sense that didnt before book 13. The man was a genius in the way he structured the books and the scale and complexity of the plot lines is magnificent.

No doubt once the final book comes out next year I will re-read the whole series yet again.

Never Let Me Go - Kazuo Ishiguro (very good more depth than film)

White Tiger - Aravind Adiga (interesting take on servant life in India)

Samuel Pepys Diary - (abridged version still a long read and not sure how long i'll last!)

Working my way through A Feast for Crows - George R R Martin at the moment, sadly I'm not finding it quite as good as GoT/CoK/SoS.
Hopefully it'll pick up before the end, then on to Dance with Dragons

Dug out an old classic

James Herriot: All things bright and beautiful

Just a great read that had me laughing out loud and waking my missus up, but also full of great warm feel-good moments from a real British time/place

Highly recommend

About to embark on Game of Thrones after this

Cannot wait for the last one :D

Great series only beaten (IMO anyway) by Steven Erikson. The only reason I prefer Erikson is Jordan has a little too much love for his main characters and they are pretty much invincible.

Really intricate and fun though and its good watching everything play out after it has all been set up :)
