What book are you reading...

Just finished Annual World's Best SF 1981. A couple of excellent stories, a few middling, nothing terrible.

My favourite was the one about the coming of total empathy, and the impossibility of killing, from the point of view of a herd of caribou in the far north of Canada. Very weird, but excellent.

Now onto Tales From The White Hart, by Arthur C Clarke.

I finished Tales Of The White Hart, by Arthur C Clarke, very entertaining. It was shaggy dog stories, with a sci fi angle.

I am now reading SSGB by Len Deighton. Excellent so far.

Midway through Children of Memory, the third/last in Tchaikovsky's sci fi series. It's excellent, can't recommend it highly enough.
Loved Children Of Time, but thought Children Of Ruin felt rushed and uneven in places. Still looking forward to last of the series as the ideas were a revelation to me.

Finished the The First Wall by Gav Thorpe. Book 3 of the Siege of Terra series (Horus Heresy). What a chore just to finish. It must be one of the worst book Gav has ever wrote. You could miss the entire book out completely. Boring and padded out to a point where it adds virtually nothing and makes little difference to the story arc. There is this sub plot line for this revelation which when it unfolds does literally nothing!!! Just terrible.

Yes, I totally agree about Children of Ruin. To be honest it didn't stick with me at all, and I probably need to reread it to "get" parts of Children of Memory. Children of Memory is excellent though (although not as good as Children of Time, which is one of my favourite sci-fi books).

I finished SSGB, by Len Deighton. Excellent!

The ending was perfect, given the book's atmosphere.

Now reading Alpha 2, a Sci fi short stories anthology edited by Robert Silverberg.

Just read Alpha 2, scifi short story anthology, edited by Robert Silverberg. A couple of really good stories, a few ok and a couple that were rubbish. I really don't like JG Ballard!

Now onto Excalibur by Bernard Cornwell.

Interesting you say that. I am also reading this book and if I am honest I am disappointed with it as I was with the second.

The first book in the series is very good, but book two I didnt like too much and book three has sarted off so weird and random I am not expecting much from it.

To be honest, I was more disappointed by the end. It started really interestingly to me, and the twist killed it. Many reviews I've read say the opposite - that it started without capturing their interest and they loved the end. So stick with it, you might enjoy it!

The Very Hungry Caterpillar

by Eric Carle

great book. read it to my newphew . its good as its easy to breakdown especially if you are under 4 years old

A simple book about a hungry caterpiller who basically eats everything

Its a book that teaches young children that if they scoff as much food as they can, no matter what they eat, they too can become a beautiful butterlly (as long as they have one starve day where they just one green leaf) 10/10

Just finished Excalibur by Bernard Cornwell (read it before, but wanted to re-read).

What a good book, and wraps up the series perfectly.

If you like a lot of stabbing, it's the book for you.

Still trying to get the urge to finish Children of Ruin a good year or so after starting it, maybe 2/3 of the way through but not enjoying it.

Yeah. I didn't hate it, but I cracked through it and it didn't really leave any impression on me. There is a lot that I just don't recall, whereas I remember the first book very well.

Wasn't that keen on the end either. I guess it was a bit different but... meh.

First book was excellent, other two were 'okay'.

For something totally different I'm currently reading Invisible Women, which is about data bias women face. Not very exciting, but makes me a bit more mindful on stuff. Looking forward to finishing it though! Reading Shards of Earth (another Adrian Tchaikovsky book) after this one.
