What book are you reading...

I just finished The Human Angle, by William Tenn. More 50s scifi short stories. Another very good read.

My fave story was an amoeba-type alien selling some pr0n from his home planet to an earthman- close-up shots of binary fission. These are subsequently used in a school science textbook. Galactic police have to work out if a crime has been committed...

I'm actually a bit sad to know I only have two books of Tenn's until I have read nearly all his output.

Book 9 of The Expanse series Leviathan Falls. My Expanse re-read has really picked up again I blasted through Tiamats Wrath and the same through Leviathan Falls. It has been a great series. This is my first read of Book 9 so no spoilers please.

Recently read Norwegian Wood, my first Murakami, and really rather enjoyed it. Stuck with me for a good while after.

Now on South of the Border, West of the Sun, and equally enjoying it. I'm finding myself quite a fan of his work.

Now reading Zen And The Art Of Motorcycle Maintenance. I'm around 40 pages in and do not like the writer at all, he just seems an arrogant know-all. I suspect I will not finish it.

abandoned Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Mantenance after a hundred pages or so, as the author was incredibly annoying.

100%, you got further than I did. Have no idea why it's such a revered book.

A reread? Assuming you started again from book 1?

Not read it myself (it's on my list) but have a similar conundrum with a series I started almost 20 years ago.

I got up to book 6 out of 10 of the Malazan Book of the Fallen. I have the last 4 on my shelf to read but can't decide if I should start from the beginning or not. Each book can be as large as 1000 pages so each one is quite the time investment.

I reckon if I'm honest I will be doing well to get through 3 in a year. Which would mean to finish all 10 will take me approximately 3 years.

Yeah I decided that in preparation for Book 9 coming out I'd do a complete series re-read to go straight into it fresh. It has taken a few montsh and I've put a few other books in as I've gone along to get some variety but once I got to Book 7 which I've only read once before I really got hooked back in and have sped through. But it has been worth it.

Some of them are 1300 pages long, I read them all over the course of about 13 months, would do it again too, suspect there is lots that I would have forgotten by the time comes around that I am up for a re-read, pound per hour entertainment was off the scale on those, I paid 99p each for them on kindle :D

Finished Excession (Culture 5) 8/10

I did like this one, very space opera with a story that encompasses a lot of area and a *lot* of characters. It was a bit difficult to follow in places, particularly the huge cast of ship minds, trying to remember which was which was difficult. I felt like I needed to take notes. The main story was interesting and some of the characters were great. Downside was some of the subplots felt almost entirely disconnected and didn't really go anywhere.

Reading Project Hail Mary by Andy Weir. 25% in and not sure what to make of it. The Martian felt like hard sci-fi, I felt the plausibility of the situation. This one is way out there.

Inversions (Culture 6) 8/10

Almost the complete opposite of the last book but found it just as enjoyable. Very small scale, very small cast and the Culture is never in fact mentioned, only hinted at very discretely. If you hadn't read other books in the series you wouldn't even think it was a Culture book. Nevertheless I found both halves of the tale to be really enjoyable.
