TO THE INTERNETS!

"The age old question of which came first, the chicken or the egg, has been tentatively answered. The verdict? The chicken, or rather a key protein needed to form the shell of the egg. The protein, called ovocledidin-17, was known to be involved in binding calcite molecules that formed the shells, but the mechanism behind this was unclear until now (abstract). The protein acts as a molecular machine, binding to nanoparticles of calcite and guiding them to begin self-assembly of the shell. This gives tremendous insight for developing methods of nano-scale self-assembly based on natural processes, as well as settling heated cocktail party arguments everywhere."

So now you know and can be the buzzkill at any party :p

I dont get why chickens exist they have no real evolutionary purpose other then to get fat n die n get eaten lol.

Wonder if chickens will take over the world in 10,000 years.

Neither. First and last are a human invention which is used to quantify certain things. In terms of creation the fundamental question of how life began cannot be answered in such a rudimentary fashion.

A mate on FB had this as his status this morning.

His answer was.....the rooster! Sort of like Narziss' post above.

The chicken apocalypse, when the chicken republic will fight for their freedom againsts humans and the cow races IN .... The Livestock Wars.

The egg.

Through evolution, the mutation occurred in the egg, the thing that laid that egg was not a chicken (just similar to it)

So the first chicken egg was there before the chicken that came out of it

That's my argument anyway :D

They never used to be this fat :p

this is hundreds of years of domestication.

That's the way I've always seen it. Well take the word "chicken" away from "chicken egg", as the question is about the "egg" not the "chicken egg".

I'd hate to be a chicken although i'd no idea what's going to happen to me anyway but all the same no thanks
