I am currently in the process of replacing Windows XP on my dads pc with windows 7. Problem is he has a lot of photos and is very un organised! Photos all over the place! So I am sitting here waiting for winmerge to find all photos and see which ones are already backed up and which arent. There are over 40000 photos!

Any suggestions what I could do to pass the time!? I dont want to risk leaving the computer as Ill never get round to the upgrade and ill only have to do this once again when he places more photos all over the place!

Drives me crazy!

Nothing but sheep and rain outside! :)

I think the computer is getting self conscious or something because I swear it goes slower when I stare at it! :)

its probably half 40000 as a lot are probably dupes

no chance of getting him to understand amazon prime! I might setup a regular backup job for him so I dont have to do this again! any recommendations on what program I can use to a scheduled update of updated photos?

Crashplan is free for personal use and unlimited. Backup to a USB drive is free.

A few £ per month for automated cloud backup.

probably closer to 20000/30000 a majority are probably dupes! :)

I think he has his camera surgically grafted to him! :) Plus hes an old man! so many years worth of photos! :D

If you are doing a clean install of win 7 (it'll be recommended). Throw in a new hard drive (SSD maybe), install it on that. Then set the 2nd drive as a store moving things like pictures folder to the top level or something. Then go about backing it up to either a cloud or external or something. depends how important the data is.
