Can you speak Chinese and do you trust them to store stuff safely? Tencent Weiyun offer 10TB cloud storage to new customers . They do have an English site though http://tencent-weiyun.eu5.org/ and English language files.

I think the external hard drive is fine, just need to find a fool proof way to back them up!
