What can i do with a Series 5 watch ( without iphone )

So i just bought a series 5 watch with LTE but have never had a smartwatch in my life and know very little about them.

Without an iphone or paying for the monthly cellular service, what can i actually do on the watch.
I do have wifi internet in the house

Ah i see, will have to get the phone also in that case. I thought it might do the very basic functions without any need for other Apple devices
 
Sadly all the above is correct. To activate an Apple Watch you need an iPhone for it to pair with. It's not possible to activate it without one.

That said, IMO the Apple Watch is one of the big reasons to join camp iOS. It's easily one of the best smartwatches out there and complements the phone really well.

My favourite feature is having Apple Pay on my wrist. The amount of surprised looks when I've paid for something using the watch is quite something! (Mainly because there's no contactless limit with Apple Pay because of the extra authentication provided)
 
I am almost certain the latest watch OS can work without an iPhone, it was one of its features, you are able to setup the watch and add it to your apple account, could be wrong but 99% sure I read it somewhere.

Although it will just basically be a watch without the phone.
