What can I do with old systems?

So... I have some old systems that were either built for a purpose or put together with bits lying round.

My needs are covered with newer stuff.

So spare I have...

Pentium 4 1.8GHz/1Gb/onboard GFX
Athlon XP-M will OC to 3500+ levels/2Gb/7800GS
Athlon XP 2500+ will also OC to 3200+/2Gb/Radeon 9700Pro

I have already given away stuff to those close that could utilise it.

The stuff is worth pennies so not worth selling, I can't bring myself to throw it away.

Any suggestions?

Tythegston dump mate. That's where I got rid of two semi-complete systems year before last. I tend to take small stuff out like RAM and PCI cards and bin the rest.

What about Freecycle? My Mum shifts a load of her stuff on there and surely there must be someone around who wants to use a computer but can't afford to buy one.

I also put an old case out the back in the lane and somebody took it. This also worked with an old push chair, a broken office chair and a few other bits and bobs.

I just can't bring myself to do it!!!!!

It just doesn't feel right.

If that 7800GS is AGP i would stick that on the bay. AGP cards are still in great demand.

It is. I think I'll keep this system the XP-M was cherry picked, the RAM is good quality stuff, corsair PSU etc. It took so much effort assembling this system I can't lose it. The others will have to go though...Freecycle is something to look into.

Thanks for the replies.

Hi,

I'm looking for some bits and bobs to build a computer for my son and I have some old computer bits, but need some other bits to build a system.

Would you have anything you no I could use to try to assemble something with the bits I've already got.

Sorry for being so forward, just thought I would strike while the iron was hot.

I am in Cardiff and would be able to pick stuff up if it was in South Wales.

Anything you had might be useful.

Regards,

All the bits I have are parts of complete systems now. Basically I bought from somewhere else for pennies just to fill the gaps if you know what I mean.

What do you have at the moment?

We have a Members Market designed for users to buy and sell computer related items, however there's a criteria that you need to meet. Have a read of the FAQ for more info.

I have 2 P4 motherboards which have stopped working at all and I have a few PCI sound cards/graphics cards etc.

I would like to go up to dual/quad or higher with PCI-E, but it gets expensive the higher you go and always something more important to pay for with kids and house etc.

I'm just looking to scrabble together any spare bits that no one wants to build the best system I can if possible.

I think what I've got is of a spec that's below what's of use to you.
