I'm not sure I follow your sentence here. There are quite a few good reasons to exercise the abs and only one of them is to increase the appearance of a '6-pack' but as I hinted above no matter how much you do it is unlikely to actually show without commitment to your diet.

Also don't just do ab exercises in isolation a) it won't really show because the body likes to grow together (e.g. you need to exercise pretty much everything to create the balance) and b) you run the risk of injuring yourself if you either aren't doing it correctly or aren't exercising the supporting muscles as per point a). Those are the primary reasons why people are asking what else you do.
