Just out of interest, what's the difference between the Freezer 7 ( original one ) and the Rev 2?. Anyone know?.

Rev.1 is 775 only i.e. it has those horrible intel push-pins on it. The lower fins are bent down to take (hot?) air over the caps and the fan is made from, i think, pressed plastic with the usual matt finish. While it's quiet the edges of the blade aren't treated and attract dust making it slightly louder.

Rev.2 uses a backplate and front plastic mount held in place with pus pegs rather than the twisty intel ones. If you have big hands you might need pliers/needle nosed to get them into place. There's no bent fins and the fan's white. Haven't heard of any complaints with dusk being attracted to the blades but that doesn't really matter since it's dampened well.

True, but the freezer 7s are the best bang-for-buck coolers with a proven record under £20, Fenrir under £30, under £40-45 it's swings and roundabouts - depends on the fan you fit really.

To be fair, it keeps my stubborn chips cores at ~52c in the summer heat without sounding like the hoover that the Fnerir is, comes with MX-2 applied (saving afew quid) & fits 6 sockets. Can't get better value for money really, which is half the point over over-clocking isn't it :)

How hard was it to fit though? I had to use that mounting system with the low profile version and ended up destroying the motherboard. Maybe I'm just careless, but it was a pig of a job, have they improved it since?
