My system keeps crashing back to the desktop while playing games. This happens with my 7800gtx cards and my x1900xt-x card..

Went it drops back to the desktop while playing games the system and game do not lockup..
The game is still running in the bottom taskbar so i can just click on the game again in the bottom task bar and contine playing again..

UnReal Tournament does that on all my systems.

I have not found a proper reason why it does this, but last night when I was going through a fresh install on a PC upstairs, I played UT and it didnt close its windows, and just played as it should... I later installed a few updates and Drivers, and it now closes to the taskbar again!

I think therefore that its just one of those? - Possibly the updates perhaps?

It does this whether I use ATI or nVIDIA graphics cards, and also Win XP Home, Pro, MC Eand XP64 do it as well as Win2K, so thats really annoying.

Anyway, I am about to reinstall MCE onto my sons PC in a few minutes ( providing I find out why its no longer able to read CDs? ) and what I will do, is not bother with the MS updates, but just do the drivers that I have first, and try UT after each update of whatever, and see if I can hit on something yeah?

Yep, it will be a Windows program, my games were crashing and deleting the desktop wallpaper and just having it blank instead stopped the crashing.

Can also be a taskbar icon demanding attention.
Also having the taskbar hidden on some games ect ect ect.

You can blame the game code but I blame windows for not having a game mode world class OS pff not yet imo.

Need for speed most wanted regularly crashes to my desktop or sometimes even shuts down the whole pc! All my other games play with no problems but NFSMW seems to be the rebel game. I blame the problem on bad game programming as my system is very stable.

Hi, it can be caused by bad graphic card drivers. Try updating or rolling back drivers to see which ones are stable on your system. Also a overclocked system can cause games to crash to desktop or just lock up.

My system in sig can run every game stable, including NFSMW and Unreal tournament without a single crash for hours. Check the above things to see if you can eliminate or check that your firewall or virus software ain't trying to connect to access the net.
