As title really. Had exactly the same problem with wireless which wouldn't work at all until around 2 minutes after I started my PC. My housemates PC connects to the network immediately on startup, whilst my PC takes forever to connect to the network. I've now got a LAN cable going straight into the router and its still the same, suggesting that its some weird windows setting.

Any ideas?

Just tried and the thompson router our landlord has given us really doesnt like the settings at all and sadly I can't access its webpage on the network to actually change anything either to help myself out.

I have no idea what the DNS info would be for the network for starters :(

dns has nothing to do with it. set a static ip, it's easy. you can find out the ip of the router and then use that...

u set the static ip on the pc not on the router.

set the gateway and dns servers as the ip address of the router
and set the ip address of the pc in the same subnet

When it's not working, chek services.msc to see if network connections and DHCP client services are started.
Sometimes these services can develop dependencies on other services that hold up their starting.
