Me and the girlfriend are going on holiday to the Canary Islands and want to know what your opinion is on what the best island to go to is?

We're not looking to party hard and would like to stay away from the travelling Rooney's in Lanzarote, soooo.. what do you think?

Been to Gran Canaria, Lanzarote and Tenerife several times each and to be honest they all have nice bits, and all have chavvy bits, you've just got to choose wisely which part of the island you go to.

I have only been to Tenerife and GC , GC was miles better than Tenerife

then again cutting my nuts off with a blunt hacksaw would be better than Tenerife

actaully Puerto de la Cruz on Tenerife is nice, Playa and los cristianos are holes though

As someone who lived in the Canary Islands for a considerable period of time, I advise Fuerteventura. Beautiful beaches. The water there is so clean you can see your feet in it. Probably more miles of beach than GC and with a much lower population I'd say it's a good bet! Obviously, the night life and so on is not what it is on the other islands but then you say that's not what you're going for!

There is an immense volcano tour for around a hour in Lanzarote. You drive around all of the volcanoes on this sketchy narrow road, miles away from anywhere else on the top of a mountain / hill. Some of the craters are beautiful / scary.

Lanzarote is very windy, and it costs a bomb to get the ferry over to anywhere else ( Eg Fuerteventura ) Even though it's a 20minute ride!

There is also an amazing restaurant called La Era, and Cesar Manriques house which is built into the rocks.

I went with family so i don't know about partying there, but sight seeing was good.

I had a great time in Gran Canaria, but then most of that was spent in the hotel if the truth be told :D

One thing i remember about Lanzarote is going up a ridiculously narrow lane on the volcano tour in a bus wondering how the heck we are still in one peace.

That and the restaurant on top of the volcanoes on the tour when someone screamed after taking their flip-flops off to find a rather hot floor :D

Ive been to Gran Canaria, Lanzarote and Fuerteventura and from what I can remember Gran Canaria was a lot of fun.

Though Fuerteventura was very good aswell. :D

alright, cheers guys! where abouts did you stay in Gran Canaria and Fuerteventura which was good? what was the local area like? We're going to get a car i think but we'd like to stay in a nice location as well :)

the times i have been to these places have all been on a student budget and really i would say that las americas is a hole.. in GC we stayed in Playa del Ingles and it wasn't that much better really. Our hotel was near the Irish area and was full of chavs in their GAA/Ireland football jerseys!

Me and my girlfriend went to Play Del Ingles in summer. We stayed at the Gran Canaria Princess hotel. The hotel was excellent and I'd definately go back there again, we spent all day by the pool and it was awesome. However the resort wasn't as good as Magaluff (where we went year before). Too many people bugging you to buy stuff.

You can walk past a shop and casually glance at a window on the way past and then all of a sudden someone will come running out chasing you shouting "YOU LIKE?".

Then at the top of steps that lead down to the beach stood a family of Africans who grab you as you walk past and try their best to tie some stupid friendship bracelet round your wrist. Got on my ****

Magaluff was more interesting as there was more going on (shows in bars and stuff). More normal things to do at night other than clubbing.

God forbid you ever go to Thailand or similar. ;)

We had the African bracelet experience near Los Gigabytes iirc in 2006, really annoyed us and put us off walking outside the lovely hotel campus.

Would love to be able to afford to visit La Gomera, but then I've heard Tenerife is great for cycling.
