Hi,

This isn't a loaded question, I'm thinking of selling my ps3, pc and satalite receiver to fund the purchase of an imac. Thus moving on with my life.

Anyway... Can I burn DVD's?convert avi's to DVD's? burn iso's to cd? mount iso's on usb sticks?

Basically Am I going to be caught short without a windows pc? I have my macbook now but only use it to type.

You could always install windows on your mac too if you think of something really important you cant do in osx.

As for all the things you have listed so far they are all possible on a mac (without extra software generally)

See I was thinking of installing linux but I have always had a problem or two with what ever distro I try. I need a distro that will never go wrong and MS Office always works without fail.

Linux would be cheaper, but I would still have loads of bedroom clutter.

Yep.

Convert avi's to DVD's?

Yep, will need 3rd party software. (Unless the latest Quicktime allows you to do this)

Burn iso's to cd?

Yep, Disk Mounter App will do that.

Mount iso's on usb sticks?

Copy and ISO to a USB stick, then mount it from there? If so yep.

At risk of someone shooting me down, you can do pretty much anything on a Mac that you can do on a PC. There's just different ways of doing things, be it different software packages or ways of working.

I enjoy a spot of COD4 on my macbook pro actually...

As mentioned, the only big one I know of is Visio. There is no good alternative I know of and it's simply not available on a Mac...

Yeah, I too have done gaming on a Mac Pro but without Windows there is no real great gaming support so I thought I'd mention it.

much as Macs look pretty, why would you want to go to all that???? IMO they ain`t worth doing that for

Since getting broadband in sept 2004 PC's and especially gaming has destroyed my life. I have got fat, hardly go out, all my friends have either moved, married, kids etc etc... I am the only one left living at my parents in the same dead end town.

Admittedly the last 12 months I have started to change my life, I don't have time for games and consoles anymore. I don't want the clutter, I want a life...

The mac still gives me support and microsoft office. Will cut down on clutter and will last me up to 10 years.

I play on ps3 maybe twice a year at most, not even for 30 mins each time. It's just sitting there gathering dust.

Now having sold all this stuff I am free. I can have a real life again!

Maybe theres something compulsive in my personality I dunno, I am just thankfull I never played WoW lol.

Doesn't sound like the PC is the problem, sounds like you need to get motivated and get out more. Once you start getting out more it gets easier to do it again as you build up more relationships with mates etc. No offence intended if you're a sensitive type!

No I'm not sensitive lol. I know what the problem is, I'm stuck in a rut. Am trying to break the cycle and the PC is part of the issue.

Well good luck to you mate. Anyway, what you doing here!

Maybe sometime when you feel ready you can get a PC together for some casual gaming again. :)

ahaha nah I'll stop it altogether. Need to get fitter and find a Mrs Oxy, plus I'm extremely busy with my teaching course lol.

I'm on PC now doing coursework, gotta break it up tonight as most if it has been sold on MM :)
