My friend this Christmas is looking to buy into the PC market finally swayed he from the console gaming xD, His budget is around 600-700 quid and was curious what card he should get, He will mainly be playing Fifa 12 on it so not a massively dependant game.

FIFA 12 PC Requirements:
Processor: Intel Core 2 Duo E6750 2.66GHz or AMD Athlon II X2 245e.
Operating System: Windows XP, Windows Vista or Windows 7.
CPU: 2.4 GHZ single core processor.
Sound Card: DirectX 9, 10, 11 compatible.
Graphics: NVidia GeForce 6800 or ATI Radeon X1600 at least, GeForce GTS 240 and Radeon HD 3870 recommended.
Hardware: Mouse and Keyboard.
Network: Internet connection for online mode.
Hard Drive: 6 GB to 12 GB.

Above requirements would suggest a powerfull graphics card is not necessary, nor for that matter a powerful cpu. However these are usually minimum requirements so I would aim for maybe an Amd 6850\6870 or Nvidia 560 which can be had for around £130 and should provide plenty of power and fit into the budget quite nicely.:)

would have been better in general hardware, but i'll give it a go speccing...

yeah yeah, I know I wen over. Did you need OS, k/b and mouse aswell?

I'd recommend waiting for the 7xxx series Radeons, should be due out shortly. Even if you don't get a 7 series it will lower the cost of the 5xxx and 6xxx series. I mean you can pick up a 5870 even now for about £180 or so and its still a very capable card, or for around £200 a 6850

Where on earth are you getting those prices from?

The 6850 is £122 from OcUK, probably cheaper again if you look around. The 5870 is not worth £180, still capable cards definitely, but you can get a 6950 for about £200, which is very similar to it.

The 7 series are apparently coming out in late Q4 2011, so December I'd say, and thats the low and mid range cards. The high end versions won't be out until Q1 2012 if the info floating around is anything to go by.

I meant to put 6950 sorry lol As for the prices of the 5870 thats the cheapest i've seen it but i've not really looked around for it for a few months so just an estimate from when i last saw its price on OCuK
