Hello all
Puzzling over what case to get for my new X99 build.
My budget is £100.
I'll be coming from a CoolerMaster ATCS 840.
I've been looking at the Fractal Design Arc XL. Anyone got any thoughts on this particular case?
I'm thinking 'big' but that's maybe just because I'm used to my ATCS 840.
As long as it's cool (on air) and quiet and can fit all my components I'll be happy.
It need sufficient girth to house a Noctua D15S cpu cooler - I think this cooler requires 165mm.
Also, I don't need anything fancy as far as appearance goes.
Any suggestions would be very welcome! :)

Thanks.

Thanks Shivy011
That case does seem brilliant for the money.
My only slight concern is that some reviews have picked up that it's a bit on the noisy side.
That would not be ideal for me as I'll by using my machine for music production - not to the extent that I need a completely silent case - but if I can avoid noise as much as possible that would be good.
I think the Fractal Design Arc XL I mentioned might be slightly quieter than the Phanteks, but it's hard to get some definitive numbers for this.
I'm certainly not ruling the Phanteks out, but hopefully I kind find something similar that is also a bit quieter.
Any other thoughts?

Makes sense, the front 200mm is proven to be quite noisy

You could look at the bequiet silent base in that case (get it? :D) or something like the corsair 550D, fractal define R4/R5 etc

Problem with the H440 is the front intake is restrictive, and needs fans to be at relatively high speed = noise + nor so cool

Otherwise another option that makes sense

After a bit of reading I'm coming round to the idea of the Define R5.
There's just a bit of a question mark as to how cool it'll keep my system.

I do like the R5 its a nice looking case and the airflow will be good in it.
I was torn between the R5 and the PHANTEKS ENTHOO PRO M

the PHANTEKS ENTHOO PRO M won for me but that was only to do with the door and where it would sit in my living room

jbh110tdi, I already looked into the Enthoo Pro earlier in the thread - it seemed almost perfect for me, apart from the noise levels. I need a quieter case as I'll be using the machine for music production. But, as a matter of interest, how are you finding the noise from your Enthoo Pro?
dacads, that's good to know! Thanks! Although, and do forgive my temerity, how can you be so sure?

Fair point Drake5, it's just that the noise was mentioned in several reviews I read/saw - which of course doesn't make it definitively true, but given the choice I would rather go with one who's reviews do not mention noise as an issue.
I reckon the Define R5 will suit me needs - especially if I can now lay to rest my slight concern about it's cooling capability.

Yep, compromises to be made.
If I was going for a multi GPU set up I'd be more concerned, but as I'll be having just one graphics card, and I won't be going for any extreme cpu overclock, I can't imagine the case will have to deal with outrageous temperatures.
But, of course, we'll see.
I may be blithely walking a road bound for unspeakable conflagration! But I hope not.
