Going by the 'Will a SSD drive make me go WOW?' thread just curious what computer hardware or software upgrade has literally made you drop your jaw?

Me...
  • RAM: Going from 4MB to 32MB & years later on 512MB to 2GB
  • GFX: A series of rubbish cards to a ATI Radeon 9800
  • CPU: Single-core to Dual-core
  • Sound: Creative Soundcard with 5.1 speakers
  • OS: Windows 7 though, not initially
  • Wild-card: Watching a Blu-Ray movie @ 1080p also Avatar in 3D but I digress...
:)

This week

Coming from XP(32bit) To win7(64bit)
2GB DDR3 to 4GB DDR3
A Plextor IDE DVD/RW To a SATA Sony Optiarc

Very impressed atm :)

Next Month

From 1900's to an 8570 ATI :)

Dual monitors is the only 'wow' of substance. Life changing.

A lot of them aren't that big a deal when we look back (ram, hdd, cpu, vga etc).

All of these jumps made me go 'wow':

Celeron (Tualatin-128) 1.1GHz -> Pentium Dual Core E2140 (yes!)
Admittedly the jump from the E2140->E5200 was a bit disappointing (had the E2140 at 3GHz, the E5200 is good for 3.5GHz - clock for clock they're not that much different either), but then the upgrade was more of a practical issue (my mum's PC needed replacing badly :p) than a performance upgrade.

GeForce 6200 LE->X1650 Pro 256 MB->8800 GTS 320 MB->4870 1 GB

All of those jumps were ****ing huge. As you can tell, I only upgrade my card when I really need to. :p

17" CRT->22" LCD

When I played SWG back in the day, I upgraded my memory from 512 to 1024

I was amazed at how much smoother it ran :p I was so into the game at that stage that I really did go WOW! :D
