What connection is this?

I took my portable hdd case off, for no real reason and found these connections, was wondering if anyone had a clue what they are?

Looks to me like the drive has been manufactured specifically for the external range with the USB interface being integrated onto the physical drive. WD must have thought that was more economic than using a separate adaptor.
