What could a low repeated thumping sound be when cornering?

I'd expect cv joints to make a higher pitched knocking sound but this is a really deep and low and feint bellow when turning the steering either direction.

I should have added, it didn't come from under the bonnet. Sound was to my side.

What does it do engine running, car not moving turning left and right?

The pump screams for mercy when you try to go past full lock. They also make noises when power steering fluids low.

Have you checked the nuts on your wheels, if they are loose they can make a knocking sound.

What area is the noise coming from, I'm guessing bushes of some sort.

I had an odd knocking noise when taking sharp bends in my Mondeo turned out to be a failed rubber mount on the exhaust letting the pipe swing enough to hit the car.
