What could pending mean on order form

I bought something cheap from a company and when i look at the order status it says "pending" 28 march 2010.

I paid next day delivery etc and its still not here and wont be now till at least mid next week i guess.

What the hell could "pending" mean?

ive got my e-recipt, bank account says its been paid.

wrote to them 2 days ago no answer yet.

They probably don't have the item in stock.

Either that a guy's just used your money to buy pina colada on a desert island.

Pending is the default status when a order has been made on oscommerce.
