Yesterday I ran AMD64 TCaseMax

But it says I have a Toledo class CPU which is a dual core CPU like X2/FX while it is a San Diego 3700+

So can it be I have a failed dual core CPU with a disabled core perhaps?

When you get some could you take a look at the stepping?

My guess is it's CCxxE, which would be a Toledo with one core disabled.

CCBWE 0542 VPMW is the stepping.

So it really is a dual core with one disabled, never knew that they did that.

/goes off to look for a program to unlock the core and have a cheap FX60 :p

the core cant be unlocked :(

it was locked for reasons after all....
ahhhh, I thought they perhaps had too much Dual core CPU's and too few 3700+ CPU's and had to use dual cores as 3700's :(

A bit like videocards.

I have the same chip, so that means I have a down graded dual core chip??
It looks like it, Toledo's are what FX60's are

Maybe one of the core was unstable and to make some money AMD decided to sell it as a San Diego 3700+ by disabling the unstable core.

so the other core must have been physically disabled?

pop the ihs and see if its something simple like a bridge being cut or something

Is the toledo core better than the San diego?

No, the Toledo core is 2 San Diego cores bolted together and sharing a memory controller. Disable one of the cores and it's functionally identical to a San Diego.

But it could explain why some of the 3700+ were not clocking as well as the straight San Diego cores.

That little bit of editing may have affected performance, or maybe the fact we have 2 cores sitting on our chip, even though only 1 is working, may be inhibiting our overclocks...

Remember the reason why it's been made a single core chip, the other core is a failure. That points to the silicon perhaps not being as good as chips from other wafers.

From what I have found out looking around the net it would appear almost certainly (although my detective skills are not that great) that what we have are X2 4400's with a disabled core.

Ironic really, I was going to buy a 4400, but decided it was too much to layout at the time!!!!

***EDIT***

Further investigation shows this as a Opteron 170 stepping, but they are only 2.0ghz, now i'm really confused....
