the 12400 is more close to 5600g/5600 the 5600x is a bit faster in benchmarks..since I owned 5600x before don't want to get anything lower end,so at least 5600X or 12600..5700X is also comparable to 12600k price and performancex3d will probs only be worth it for sim games or open world where there more cpu bound.
The intel 12400 was suppose to match 5600x wasnt it and its about 140 i think or am i thinking of the 11400 ones?. Could get that then move up later?
agree,I would've payed another £100 for 5800X3D IF it wasn't only a 8 core on a dead platform.100% agree.
Person states their budget and it's ignored entirely. IF OP had kept their B550 and didn't need a new motherboard, 100% agree that the 5800X3D would be a good option.
tbo I don't get all the praise it gets from tech tubers.it's only fast in 1080p gaming.
in other applications it's not that great.
I only game, but if I'm paying £400 for a CPU,I want it to have more than just 8 Cores and to be a really good for everything.not just in 1080p gaming.
it's just poor value for money at £400+
£300 is a good price for it.
many of the parts I picked are high end/mid range.monitor,SSD,GPU.but for CPU+MB I don't want to over spend because unlike things like SSD,display and GPU it's just not going to make a difference for what I do.Similar position to me, planning to buy Black Friday weekend (I have a 3070 and 32GB of 3600C16 DDR4 dual rank waiting), and looking like its going to be between 12400/12600K+B660 and 5600+B550 depending on what comes up in the sales.
Unless the AM4 is considerably cheaper though, it seems to make more sense to go Intel, as at least there will be a 13th gen upgrade path down the road if I so choose and could get a chip at the right price for the performance differential.
If the 5600+B550 works out substantially cheaper than the 12400/B660 option though, I will still consider it, but doesn't seem the best time to buy, considering its the last range of chips for the platform ostensibly. 12400/5600 are pretty neck and neck, with the 12600K a jump up, so if the BF Sales end up with a 12600K or even 12700/K and a B660 at a similar price to the 5600 however, it's basically game over, even if I don't really want to switch to Windows 11. I also have to factor in the higher I go with the chips, the more likely I'll need to factor a cooler/AIO in.
Budget is what it is, and I really want to get the CPU/Motherboard/Case/PSU/1TB SSD as close to £450-500 as possible. I think Case and decent PSU and reasonable quality 1TB SSD is easily achievable in less than £200, so its which platform will give me the most with the other £250-300 leftover, and ideally with as little as possible spent. I cannot justify really ramping up the cost to the build as it'll be a secondary/less used/backup rig; unless I end up swapping things around using it in place of my core rig, but that would push the prices up substantially as I'd want to go upper-midrange.
What comes up as a deal around Black Friday may well end up making the decision for me, if either side has comparably better deals than the other side, that will probably be the decider.
the i5 12400 is equivalent and on-par with 5600g/5600.the 5600X is slightly faster but still comparable.12400 is a bit cheaper than 5600X.but it's a bit too low end for me.
the 12600K is superior to 5600X in games and even more in other application.it's more comparable to 5700X.
If I can find a good new B550 MB at around £90,I think I'll just get another 5600X (£170) and call it a day (for 2 years),I said £90 not because I can't afford another £60 for Mb but because at this point they are simply not worth anymore.
otherwise the i5 12600 (£260) + a decent (£150) B660 MB seems the way to go.
I'm waiting for BF too.
