Hi,
Just picked up a Shuttle XPC SP35P2 cheap, I read these are ok clockers for a Shuttle/SFF.

I'm looking at Intel E8500 or should I save £20 and buy the E8400 instead?

I had some Corsair Dominator 2x2GB PC8500 in the past and they were very good, Should I go the Corsairs again or will the cheaper Kingston HyperX PC8500 do?

Its going to be a gaming rig, I'm hoping to reach 4GHz in a Shuttle, is that asking too much?

Thanks for all the help in advance.

I don't know about whether you're asking a lot or not, but I would probably get the E8400 and get the kingston. I bought a E8500 to replace my Q6600, but back on the quad now as The E8500 wasn't making enough difference in games and it had a funny multi my 680i didn't really like.. Can't warrant that price different for the performance difference between the memory as well.

Get some good cooling in there and you'd be away :D good luck

Thanks for the pointers.

Fair enough, I'll go for the E8400 + Kingstons, I think the cooling in the Shuttle is limited, unlike full size mobos + case. I doubt I could push the RAM and CPU to the limited, so might aswell go cheapest option.

I have a X38 mobo + Q6600, but sold it and bought a laptop until the i7 stuff drops in price, but got the Shuttle for £55, So kinda want to have it built cheaply.

Cheers,
Korduo

You might reach 4Ghz in it, I'm so close with my E6700 in an SD37P2, the fans spin up a bit under full load but it is fun trying. New memory next week so will try to get mine to 4Ghz, it boots but Orthos fails very quickly at the moment. :)

Shuttles have a bit of a limitation when it comes to space and cooling. This combination usually means fairly warm temps and the usually passive cooled chipsets get pretty warm too so i wouldn't get your hopes up too high with the overclocking

Yeah, if it hasn't got a fan on the NB then it's worth seeing if you can find a replacement heatsink with a fan. The CPU temps seem OK but the NB is hot!
