What CPU to get?

What would be more future proof? 1366?

That's dead by Q3 next year unless that get's moved forward as well.

It's a really difficult choice at the moment with Intel replacing both their sockets and it's looking increasingly unlikley that Bulldozer will work in AMD's current AM3 boards so that's another socket change.

***Edit*** Just read in the motherboard section that Bulldozer will only work with AMD's new AM3+ socket when it's released.

Yeah that is what I was getting at, future proof is a term I hate personally. People were screaming "go AM3 then you will be able to drop in BD later". Buy for the now.

Problem is Sandybridge is just a halfway house INTEL will bring out another chip-set in less than a 18months after Sandybridge. So why wait if you need a machine build one. Any machine will be useless gaming-wise after about 2-4 years so its not really worth holding out IMO

I agree in part, but what about something like the 1055t? When oc'd to 3.8 like the 955/65 it gives more or less the same gaming performance, only has 2 more cores. So presumably, if games continue to develop in the way they have been the 1055t could well be still a capable chip for gaming when games are making use of 6+ cores? What do you guys reckon?

When has ever anything in PCs been future proof? Buy for what's best for now and enjoy until the day it runs like a an old dog..
