Do abit of everything on my pc and thinking of an upgrade build
currently i have a ryzen5 3600.

i am looking a 2 paths intel and ryzen for the cpu

i5 11400f against the ryzen7 5800x if i went the intel route i could save myself £200ish

what path would you take and why?

Seems an odd mix, if only for the price difference, and the next generation of both Intel and AMD are literally just around the corner, Intel 12th gen early next month it seems and AMD early next year.

Of the two, I think it's basically 6 core vs 8 core, if you do 'a bit of everything' there's a good chance the 5800x with the extra 2 cores will be better, but as you mention also cost a chunk more.

Although thinking about it after typing that, the 5800x can almost certainly drop into your current motherboard? 11400F seems to be around £185, 5800X £380, but the 11400F will need a motherboard as well which would eat up a fair bit of the difference?

I went for the i7-10700k in my latest build and it’s pretty awesome

I used to use amd but moved away as ran hot and at the time Intel we’re the better supported chip (amd phenom triple core)

however AMD seem to have caught up and there chips are much better if not perhaps in front a little.

I think from memory Intel has integrated hd graphics out of the box where as with amd you need a gpu/onboard however I could be totally wrong sure I saw it somewhere though.

Either way I think it’s personal preference

for me I’m Intel & Nvidia however a full AMD rig might be just as good, however historically always struggled with amd drivers for windows and Linux where as Intel was more widely supported

I'd go for Ryzen OP - The 5800X or 5900X will drop in price quite a bit once the vCache versions come out... You might snag a 5900X for £300-400 which would be awesome!

Why? What's wrong with the Ryzen 5 3600?

5800X often come up at around £300 mark these days. Watch out for codes and discounts etc

10400f is currently £140 seen it as low as £120.

but two different CPUs. 6core vc 8core.

5600x can be had for around £200 which is probably more comparable to 10400F. And it is a direct in socket upgrade so a lot less cost and faff involved
